Values in the Settings.xml

  • I like to know what the following lines represent and if they're editable or not.

    <LodScale value="1.000000" />

    <PedLodBias value="0.200000" />

    <VehicleLodBias value="0.000000" />

    <MSAAFragments value="0" />

    <MSAAQuality value="0" />

    <SamplingMode value="0" />

    What's the deal here? I have set MSAA to 8x.

    <Shadow_SplitZStart value="0.930000" />

    <Shadow_SplitZEnd value="0.890000" />

    <MaxLodScale value="0.800000" />

    @Weirdoutworld @LeeC2202 @turtlevan @Frazzlee @FoxtrotDelta or anyone, can you please help me?

  • @Frazzlee Sent you a PM.

  • @Akila_Reigns Not sure about editing those values. If you get an answer or figure it out please let us know.

  • @Akila_Reigns These are my settings. I have MSAA on x4, soft shadows on (in this install) and extended scaling set to off.

    <LodScale value="1.000000" />
    <PedLodBias value="0.200000" />
    <VehicleLodBias value="0.000000" />

    <MSAA value="4" />
    <MSAAFragments value="0" />
    <MSAAQuality value="0" />
    <SamplingMode value="0" />

    <Shadow_SplitZStart value="0.930000" />
    <Shadow_SplitZEnd value="0.890000" />

    <MaxLodScale value="0.000000" />

    I am guessing those LodBias values are tied into the MaxLodScale value, to basically apply a shift to the Lod values to increase the Lod adjustment as a percentage. So the .2 PedLodBias probably means that the peds get their Lod values adjusted higher than the vehicles, to cut their detail down more quickly, or more slowly... depending on how it works.

  • @LeeC2202 Thanks.
    But there are lines like:

    <MSAAFragments value="0" />
    <MSAAQuality value="0" />

    There are no options to adjust them in-game.
    Do you have an idea about those lines?

  • @Akila_Reigns I would guess that they're values that are used by the MSAA internal processing. If you change them, does anything visibly change in the game?

    I don't really do much with the settings to be honest.... so I haven't really looked that closely at anything in the settings.xml file. I'm also a total noob when it comes to AA (as @turtlevan has recently discovered) and up until getting my new card, had it all turned off.

  • @LeeC2202 I'm not really bothered with AA, I'll admit. But my game has become seriously crappy these days, the most annoying part is the "blurred roads in the distance" problem. The game run smoothly. I'm trying to find a fix for that issue. I thought settings.xml is a good place to look.

  • @Akila_Reigns Have you used any road texture mods where they haven't assigned the correct number of mipmaps to the road textures?

  • @LeeC2202 I use L.A. Roads, worked fine until yesterday. :confused:

  • @Akila_Reigns Oh right, so it's an all of a sudden thing? Does it do it on pure vanilla settings as well... i.e. zero mods of any kind?

  • @LeeC2202 You know me, L.A. Roads+Project Reload+Real posters, VisualV+Natural Vision, RDE, a lot of scripts and 200+ add-on vehicles, modified handling, custom popgroups, anything can cause that.

    I haven't checked vanilla settings. I'll check. Thanks for your reply.

  • @LeeC2202
    i have different shadow values

    <Shadow_ParticleShadows value="true" />
    <Shadow_Distance value="1.700000" />
    <Shadow_LongShadows value="false" />
    <Shadow_SplitZStart value="1.000000" />
    <Shadow_SplitZEnd value="0.999900" />
    <Shadow_aircraftExpWeight value="0.990000" />

  • @RYAN I notice you have LongShadows turned off, that might be the cause of the difference... I have them turned on.

  • @LeeC2202
    that is just the seting of shadows for planes going between you and the sun if they are at certain height above ground... and yes ... it's about the ground diference because you can be in that plane and not see shadow

    i just enabled it... must of forgot about it

    i think is also about high buildings having shadows at a longer distance but i don't know how to show that cause ambient occlusion comes into action there

  • @RYAN Ah right... I honestly know very little about what happens in that file, I just move sliders and go with the end results. :D

  • @LeeC2202

    and still we need nvidia control panel to really apply some settings... maybe not shadow modifications but if you do not force antialliasing 16x into the panel the game seems will not apply it... this just like an analogy for settings

  • @RYAN Yeah, my eye-candy version (as I like to call it), has an Nvidia Inspector profile that goes with it, for setting all the extra AA stuff. Those settings are from my default version, which just uses the game settings to control things.

  • @RYAN @LeeC2202 It's not just for aircraft's shadows, it's for shadows cast by objects distance from the player.

  • @Akila_Reigns

    PCSS shadows ? from EnVydia ? yeah they look good but sometimes they make a box around the player where they just snap the quality in half

  • @RYAN The box is always there no matter what. Its un-avoidable & drives me insane. PCSS Shadows are undeniably the most realistic. I use Softer just to get a couple extra FPS.

  • @Weirdoutworld
    Do you have something like this ?

    how about enlarging the box to a value/distance where the snapping can't be seen ?
    or even better... making the box so small that the snapping happens right beneath character feet ?

    let's say the characters have a height of 2 meters... how far is your box edge ? aproximate ?!

  • @RYAN It moves with the camera.

    1st Person has the biggest box
    closest 3rd person view has the smallest.

  • @RYAN Barely noticeable here... but it IS there... 0_1478295020205_GTA5 2016-11-02 20-06-06.png

  • @RYAN HD shadows on, PCSS, AO set to high Makes it look the best... IMO

  • @RYAN In that video he must be using low settings because my "shadow render box" has NEVER been that bad... lol thats horrible
