Can someone explain how to change a peds footstep sfx?

I am working on a Robocop enhancement mod and I wanted to add the sound he make when he walks. I have a soundbyte But when I want to change the default footstep sfx with the directory I found for it and listened to all 518 footstep audio files and edited the ones that sounded like he was stepping on a hard surface and left all the ones of him stepping or splashing in water. In the game the edit caused the sfx to be deleted and silent. So I had to restore the default sound effects files. Can someone explain how to edit this properly?

So no modders dont want to offer any form of assistance of passing along knowledge to benefit the site. I mean come on guys, I am sharing a massive project that I have spent countless hrs and days putting together and all I am asking is for a little assistance with formatting and editing the exact files that the default character uses. I know I have found the location of the feet sound effects. Only when I try to edit the sound in game shuts off like I am not doing something right. Can someone that edits sound effects offer some kind of assistance here?

Thanks man I will look into that! I know how to use audacity a little bit , not that great at it though. Just learned how to use that to edit Robocops voice into the game. I used it for his voice overs and to make his voice sound like its being played over the loud speaker PA system while he is in the vehicle! "DEAD OR ALIVE, YOU ARE COMING WITH ME"

If need be, at some point in future etc, you can always create the sounds in another program, & if it doesn't export to the correct format, or they don't work when installed etc, export them to whatever is compatible & then just run them through an Audacity export before installing them to the game.
