Helicopter modders help required please... looking for information on rotor blades.



  • Could someone please explain where these bones are positioned relative to the helicopter and the rotor blades please? Are they simply placed at the centre of the blade's rotation point?

    rotor_rear
    rotor_main_2
    rotor_rear_2

    Also, are there any dummy objects/bones positioned at the tips of the blades, or is there any information in any of the data files that would tell me what the blade length is?

    Ideally, I would like to be able to get the central position of the rotors and the blade lengths for any helicopter I get into, without having to measure and store preset values, if possible. The includes both single and double rotors.

    Any help is much appreciated as it saves me having to try and work with ZModeler3 instead of writing code. :)



  • @LeeC2202 Yes these rotor dummies, have to be exactly at the center of the blades. where all the blades meet. because that is the pivot point around which the blade will rotate. all of them . rear and main ones. you can use openiv to see the length of the baldes. and if the file is unlocked you can use zm3.



  • @FoxtrotDelta Yeah, I actually just ended up writing the test code and seeing what the results were from those bone positions. rotor_main and rotor_rear seem to give me all the information I need so far.

    Whether there are some special conditions that use the _2 versions I don't know... I'm sure I'll find out when things break. :)

  • @FoxtrotDelta Ah, cool... that makes things easier. Thank you for the help. Hopefully the end result will be something that enhances the helicopters in the game... we shall see.
