Is there a way to bypass GTA Online Updates?
-
The recent GTA Online Update broke all my mods and I've since deleted the game out of anger, but now I want to know if it's possible to bypass those updates. I'm aware that you can disconnect your internet to bypass it, but R* eventually won't let you play offline. Is there a way other than this?
Thanks!
One more thing, I'm not sure if this is the right place for questions regarding GTA4 modding, but if anyone knows how to help it'd be much appreciated:

@Crese1947 If you're on Steam you can't really bypass the GTA updates. However there is a very simple workaround. All you need to do is backup your games files, including SH, before the update (in other words do it right now) and then you restore those files after the update. The files you need to backup are just the .exe files, the game version of Update folder, and SH. In other words you freeze your current game, let the new update install itself, then overwrite the update with your backup. Doesn't get more straight forward and easy than that. Steam will not bother you again until there is a new update or if you do a verify integrity (from which you can simply restore the old files again). I've done this 2 or 3 times, it works perfectly.
If you are on Epic, my understanding is that it will continue to try to upgrade, but apparently there are launch apps or mods that will effectively allow you to a bypass. I'll let an Epic user comment further.
Having said all that, there is absolutely no reason why you can't restore and play your modded game after an update. All you need is some patience and some basic troubleshooting skills. Generally speaking you just need to remove any mods that are no longer compatible and you might also need to update your gameconfig or change from one gameconfig to another one.

@JohnFromGWN Thanks, I'll have to redownload GTA5 and all my mods before I can do that though. I don't know why R* forces GTA Online updates on you, just seems petty. If you lose access to your internet and a new update comes out then after a few days you can't even play GTA anymore.
I wish people would stop playing GTA Online, it might give R* a wakeup call if people stop buying their stupid sharkcards.

@WGotch07 Where's the game version of Update folder located?

Rockstar has a mechanism in place to update their GTA V game, not just for the Online part of it.
On that note, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread. While I am quite sympathetic to the issues people are describing here, the gta5-mods forum is not the place to discuss ways to crack/circumvent Rockstar's measures.
