There is a square shape on the ground at my player character

  • This problem is a bit of weirdo really and started annoying me. I will explain further after posting the screenshot;

    With ENB

    Without ENB
    alt text

Now first of all this isn't related to a spesific ped. I tried player protagonists, vanilla peds, addon peds .. It's all the same...

This square is also visible while in car too.

To give a bit more info, I was using Redux before and this thingy was super annoyingly there. When I fly over a water, the shadow of the aircraft was square shaped pitch black. When it was casting on the grass, it wasn't pitch black but there was a clearly noticeable dark square shadow. However when I fly very close to ground, this square shape disappears and the normal shadow starts being casted on both water and grass. While driving cars there was a very subtle one but almost not noticeable at all.

Interestingly (and luckily) after I switched to NVE this square disappeared on the water and grass. However while I was checking this ENB's puddle reflection thingy I saw it again. Tried disabling the ENB entirely but it's still there (although more subtle since the reflection quality is terrible and too blurry without ENB).

Does anyone have an idea what can be done to disable this square? or at least shrink it perhaps?
I have a feeling like this is something to do with shadow. Was watched a video of the shadow quality around player (about the size of this square) being high quality (like fences showing with FXAA, SMAA very good anti alliasing) but any shadow outside this zone is low quality, very sharpy and no anti alliasing.

  • @Aurora11 Did you notice the colour of the peds legs? I've never seen an ENB or visual "enhancement" mod that doesn't look like the graphics were rendered by a 10 year old who just discovered Photoshop filters...but that's just me ofc.

  • @JohnFromGWN Yup :( Unfortunately I'm in a big lost in that part :( I wanted to switch this one after I saw all those cool and nice looking screenshots but I just can never get my game looking even close to that.

I guess I'm just gonna go ahead and uninstall this game for good and move on .. This is gonna be really the only game for me I am going to uninstall because I just can't get the graphic enhancements work properly. I played Skyrim, Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 for so long and the graphic mods I installed for those games were the exact identical from what I saw from screenshots :( For gta 5, the only graphic like that I have experienced so far was Redux but they kinda stopped the development :/

So nothing really left for me to do about these issues I'm having with this nasty game..... How funny a game even older and have even worse engine handled the mods far more better than this crap .. which I didn't even have a desktop pc back then either...

  • @Aurora11 I don't understand why you don't like the vanilla graphics? You can always try to adjust your monitor, colour, brightness, and contrast. Of course you will always be limited by your monitor and graphics card. Anyway sorry to hear about your problems but uninstalling is a little drastic, no?

And GTA5 is by far the best open world/free room/sandbox you will find. There isn't any game that has this level of realism (i.e. this time period), the mod support, the cars, the peds, the ability to play your own music, to script the engine, to change the location, to customize interiors, etc. Nothing comes close. There are many great open world games including driving games but GTA5 is pretty unique. I've played open world with AC Syndicate, Watch Dog 2, Mafia DE, but GTA 5 is still number 1 in my book.

  • @JohnFromGWN I mean I don't wanna uninstall it either but I depleted all of the options :( Vanilla graphics are nice and very performance friendly. I tried using only the ReShade to give them some color but I feel like without some texture changes the world always looking like a bit handicapped :/

I honestly started feeling like Forza Horizon 5 is an amazingly done game. The only lack of feature I felt was you can't get out of the car but even if you could there isn't really anything to do as a ped anyway. However the graphics are just mindblowingly amazing. I'm literally stunned with the quality but the optimization is also quite impressive as well. It's a game you don't need any graphic enhancement mods at all. Same for the car sounds too, and those properly working dashboard stuff where in gta the only working thing you can get is dials (and a fake gear icon). No need to search hundreds of mods to be able to find the car looking like what you desire. You can change the apperance yourself however you please.

There are honestly so so many things I can talk about that game. The only downside of it is it's only for driving cars and nothing more .. GTA sure has many things to do. They are not exactly unique things but they are just a collection things from many different type of games... Unfortunately rockstar cornered the market with that type of game and once a market is cornered by 1 company in this stupid world system, it's nearly impossible to compete with it unless you make something truly amazing. That's how Forza Horizon got bested the Need For Speed, same with smartphones against Nokia. Also the second reason was these companies didn't make much of an improved for a very long time and this created opportunity for other companies to catch up. Now I'm starting to see the same thing from rockstar too. RDR2 and GTA V sure different type of games but they share many things between themselves and judging from that, I can't say GTA 6 gonna be a much lovely game. Although I'm not sure when can exactly another company can catch up and come with a mindblowingly beautiful and lovely full open world game to compete with it :(

Very sorry for a super long post, yeah sometimes I just lose it :/

  • @Aurora11 Agreed the graphics are amazing as is the realism in Forza Horizon 5, but GTA 5 does a damn good job for vehicles and the first person perspective is a big plus. We have to remember this game came out in 2013 (2015 for PC).

GTA6 should be interesting but R* is taking their sweet time, making plenty of money off GTAO. However the company that really disappoints me personally is Valve. They made what is arguably the greatest PC game of all time, HL2, as well as the best zombie game L4D2 and they have a huge community that play TF2 yet they don't seem to have any interest in updating these legendary titles (disclaimer: not a fan of TF).

All we've had from them was Alyx. I guess Gabe is rolling in money with Steam so he doesn't need to create HL3 or sell the franchise to another gaming company.

Sort of crazy when you think of it. HL3, even if it was a total failure, because of its fan base would probably be the highest selling game in its launch year - but Valve doesn't make shit games, so it would definitely be a winner.

  • @JohnFromGWN I wish they would just sell them really :( Such amazingly beautiful games we spent our childhood with just dying because of these incompetent companies  I'm so sad about it really :sob: :sob:

EA did the same with Mass Effect. They killed my beloved ME series with that useless Andromeda and then made a new game with those robots which became an absolute disaster as well..
Same with Bethesda too. The logic of adding a singleplayer option to a game and charging people for it monthly........... more over while there is already a game with singleplayer anyway without that many of bugs .. and of course the creators of paid mods too... Aaahhh the world gone to shit really ..

By the by Forza Horizon 5 has a really nicey first person camera as well. and the screens in most cars are actually functional instead like just a static picture. There is a gear change animation as well for both old type gear and gear with wheel pedals. I turned off the external speedometer because the car's own dashboard speedometer is already super accurate. Although the connection is really bad, not sure will they fix later :/ and driving is a bit sad without logitech's wheel thingy. AI cars also driving on rails even on muddy road that annoys the hell out of me ..

I wouldn't hold my breath on GTA6. GTA5s titties still have milk to be milked. I'm sure GTA6 will come out "eventually" but doubt it will even have singleplayer nor story. Games these days are all lacking that content that made them great in the first place and it's all about making bank off micro transactions. Its not news I'm sure but the fact that they give no other one of their games love like they do GTA Online speaks volumes. I won't be surprised to see GTA6 being an online only game with shark cards galore. Until R* has competition in this genera we won't see GTA6 for a long time.
P.S. I agree with yall to say that vanilla GTA graphics for what they are and age still look amazing. If and when

Totally agree but Sleeping Dogs and Mafia series were great games as well. They are in a way different games to me and love them for it. GTA is on another level and with mods its even more amazing. I have tons of PC games, Console exclusives, and a library of retro games that I have been fortunate enough to collect yet, I play GTA more than any of them lol.

  • Since reading this post I too started noticing this box and now I can't un notice it lol. Any one find a way to get rid of it or is that the games render LOD area or what not? I noticed is more when using softest shadows vs the other settings. I took so pics of me rolling towards some tree shadows.

@Aurora11 If you really can't play this game without vanilla graphics try NVE. You have to pay for it but out of all that I used back in the day it was the best, at least for me. Or if you want to go on a more FPS friendly route get reshade and try some peoples presets. I can see if I can link mine even somehow. I just have very subtle shadowing and sharpening that really compliment the already great vanilla graphics

  • @DugiHowser GTA6 will definitely have SP because T2 learned a powerful lesson when they tried to shutdown OpenIV with brute force. They won't be stupid enough to lose the support of the entire modding community and free roam users like myself. Sure the majority of players are online now but that's expected at this point in the life cycle, after all the console version came out in 2013.

Providing the SP mode will not require more investment. They'll give us both but of course they'll ignore SP for dlc, that's a given.

  • @JohnFromGWN I'm honestly starting thinking like Dugi as well about the SP aspect. The very fact that they are forcing you to login and be online even to play SP (my social account got hacked by the by and they are so incompetent when it comes to help. They are literally paid to ignore me, I played online 2 months ago and they are telling me I never logged in to my account with the email address I provided...........................) gives me the feelings the game will be online only :( They might perhaps still add a SP option to ease of the heat of community but I'm sure it won't be as exciting and gonna be very short, 2 days top with a longest play ..

@DugiHowser I actually wanted to give a try to NVE again. I was tried it before but what I'm seeing in game was nowhere even close to screenshots. So after a long while I thought it would worth a shot to try again. So now I'm checking all the new stuff and it's sure looks a lot better on me compared to what I was seeing before. I honestly truly liked the light reflections on the water at night time. Giving me vibes of a lovely summer place

Although there are still other things still not good (at least for me). I am seeing some people posting very amazing screenshots, so I tinkered with the ENB settings here and there but still mine nowhere even close to theirs... I guess they are using a custom reshade or some different ENB shaders but of course the greed became a fashion in modding for a long time and they never even tell what they are using let alone sharing it... So I'm just doing what I can myself.
I was using Redux with only ReShade before. It's a lot more performance friendly and the colors are just so vibrant and colorful which I love a lot. Unfortunately though they didn't get the same support as some other graphic mods, some reasons are justified some reasons not, and they kinda became a bit old fashioned today. But honestly, Redux combined with vanilla graphics are somewhat also really nice as a different timeline based. It gives me the chill of LA from Terminator 2's times and I honestly feel a bit warm to that look, all those yellow streetlights and all that haha  NVE is more like a new times' LA, they are both good in their own timelines. I hope though I can find some help about this weirdo square thingy :( Also a good SubSurfaceScattering shader that gives a very nice and realistic beautiful look on peds would be super lovely :see_no_evil: :rose:

  • @Aurora11 said in There is a square shape on the ground at my player character:

The very fact that they are forcing you to login and be online even to play SP

Yep, that pisses me off. But remember, many of the companies are doing it now so they can shove ads down your throat and also track how long you are playing. Google started the spyware technology, Facebook jumped on the bandwagon and brought it to new heights. When I play almost any SP game today on Epic, UbiConnect, 2K Games, I need to login. Steam is much better but far than perfect.

Anyway not holding my breath waiting for 6, sounds like 2024 release if any, but if they did go online only, which would be a first in the franchise, you won't see me online.

  • @JohnFromGWN Ohoh, I would be shocked if facebook wouldn't jump on it. The AI they ar trying too hard to make has 1 purpose: Digitalize everyone and create their digital ad algorithm then sell it to every company...

When Elon Musk talks the dangers of AI, that's why that spoiled rich brat insulting to someone who made far better space rockets than NASA...

  • @Aurora11 They are trying to disguise the fact they are evil by renaming themseleves as Meta and trying to make their sheep believe they invented the Metaverse.

  • @Aurora11 Honestly 99% of the videos and screenshots of "graphic enhancers" are set way to over saturated and or are preset to look really good in screenshots not in actually gameplay. Besides, I don't get why people insist rainy wet roads are realistic? If you look at real life pics and then look at the junk on youtube you'll see what I mean. If this was available to the public it would be game over for the graphic mods race

Anyway, NVE has come a long way and worth another look IMO. Note: With any of these graphic mods it makes the story cutscenes unplayable due to over saturation of the skin tons. IF I have time today Ill install my ENB and show you what I mean.

  • @DugiHowser I'm a very serious photography enthusiast (3 Nikon DSLRs and about 10 other cameras) and this makes think of the incompetent photographer who doesn't know anything about composition, exposure, and focus who then uses Photoshop or Gimp to crop, adjust the exposure/levels, and sharpen his blurry crap. He then thinks the finished picture is a masterpiece and proudly displays it to oooohs and awwwwws on Facebook for family and friends.

  • @JohnFromGWN I played GTAO for a little bit on console when my friends were big into it. It was fun playing with them. Once I got a PC and started modding it changed everything for me. Rest is history.

I hate to disagree with you but T2 learned no lesson nor gives a crap about the modding community like you nor myself. Just like EA will never learn their lesson neither will T2. These AAA game studios even said that there is no money in SP campaigns and plan to stick to online only because that is where the money is in micro transactions. And now even worse, NFTs! I hope I am wrong but with T2 trying to shutdown the modders constantly I'm starting to lose faith. The only way things will change is if they get serious competition in the genera and their profits tank. That and the kids need to stop buying these shark cards/loot boxes lol.

  • @DugiHowser I hear you but my thought process goes like this. The incremental investment to do both the SP and MP shouldn't be that great since they share the same assets. The hard core gamer will go through the SP in 4 to 8 hours, a little more if the gameplay is procedural.

If the SP gameplay lasted for months it would be an issue. But it will be short and quick and then the gamer can either move to another game or they are stuck giving T2 money, as you said, playing online. So very little risk for the studio.

What we will see more and more is the subscription model that Ubi are using, including their own platform. This gives them a revenue stream and they don't have to pay Valve for using the Steam platform.

This is a great time for gaming companies, particularly during this f********ng pandemic which seems to be here to stay.

Yeah I agree, I laugh at these guys who push these crappy over saturated graphic mods and presets that claim their 3090s are "overheating" cause they are so good! Or all they do is show puddles
The link I just shared is the only photo real enhancement mod that comes close if not the closest. After all, what is more real then photorealism.

  • @DugiHowser Agreed. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with photoshopping a screenshot. Actually can be lots of fun, but I would not want to do that with my photoghrapy, just for games.

If that was true R* would of released SP DLC, RD2 DLC, or other game titles a long time ago. Same goes with the dumpster fire that is BF2042. No Campaign just MP. There are more expenses in creating SP then we presume. Actor costs, animators, writers etc.. These AAA studios have shown their true colors when they started releasing unfinished and broken games. They don't give a shit about the people who buy their games as long as they pre order/buy them. They'll put minimal effort to get max profit.

If the SP gameplay lasted for months it would be an issue. But it will be short and quick and then the gamer can either move to another game or they are stuck giving T2 money, as you said, playing online. So very little risk for the studio.

The gamer would not move on if they released SP story DLC. Cras and outfits isn't content nor makes me personally want to play online. Spiderman was a SP only game and people still play it. It also grossed more than most of these "online games" out there.

What we will see more and more is the subscription model that Ubi are using, including their own platform. This gives them a revenue stream and they don't have to pay Valve for using the Steam platform.

If that is the future we are doomed. Thankfully I'm getting burned out from gaming as a whole (I think Im getting old :P) so I hope to not have to deal with that much longer  Ubisoft is a shit hole of a company. They all are  I truly hope people do not allow this to happen. Next they will dictate when you can play your game and when you can't wait.. they already do. R* removing GTA DE from launcher cough cough.

Every game I have but a few, I have a physical copy of and have found or will find ways to avoid these bullshit launchers. I own these games and can/will play them when I want because I own them. People don't own crap with these launchers

@Aurora11 I'm so sorry for high jacking your thread :( Any luck on the weird box fix?

  • @DugiHowser @Aurora11 I had an interesting conversation with an industry insider, works for what I think is the largest AAA company in the world. His take was very different although this is just him speculating.

He offered that it might be exactly the opposite, that they might chose to go only SP. The reasoning is that the GTA franchise is one of the top 5 in terms of revenue. Launching a GTA6 online would just cannibalize/steal sales from the highly profitable GTA5 online whereas GTA6 SP would not.

Either way he agreed they aren't in any hurry to launch this title, particularly since they just put out the Trilogy.

Interesting.. Though new entries cannibalize their predecessors regardless. R*/T2 would be very dumb not to release an online component. As a business perspective online is their cash cow. So what would they do then, release GTA6 as SP and keep GTA5 as online? For them to just release GTA6 being SP is definitely not happening. Online with SP maybe, but online 100%!!
God I hope who ever you spoke too is correct and I'm wrong but with video games pretty much being online casinos these days, these AAA studios don't care about anything other than money. Only way they will change that motto is if people stop buying into that crap. Sad that people do in the first place..
The older I get I find myself loosing intertest in games more and more. GTA5 and the ability to mod it keeps me playing it to this day. I enjoy my indie games, remakes, and retro titles now more then ever.

  • @DugiHowser he doesn't know more than we do, those were just his thoughts on a different possibility. Only time will tell but you're absolutely right that they could care less about their customers. That's why they tried unsuccessfully to shutdown the modding community, as if we are a threat, their enemies, rather than their customer base.
