Easiest way to convert .yft to object/prop(ydr)?

  • Sup!
Gta V contains many car-related 3d models such as tuning parts, however, they are only accessible to their respective car.
How would you change the file format so it is readable as a prop in-game?
    Help is appreciated.

Not 100% sure, never done it, I'm just going by what I can find online, but one way would be to import the '.yft' into ZModeler3 (requires paid subscription) > make any necessary corrections to the hierarchy > export as '.3ds' (3DS MAX file) > Open 3DS MAX (expensive) > import '.3ds' file > edit (if required) > export as '.ydr' using 3DS MAX GIMS Evo plugin.

I see you mentioned Blender in your other thread. That would be another way.

    Note:
You'll need to make sure you have a copy of 3DS MAX that is compatible with the GIMS Evo plugin. Generally that's any 3D MAX version from 9(with Service Pack 2 and "AvGuard DLX Extension") to 2016, but 2017 works also (in my case anyway) & there are possiblities of running it with newer versions online if you search for them (I have no idea if they work or not, but have seen threads about doing it).

    Sup.
I actually do have a 1 year license of 3dsMax, what changes would I need to apply for a successful ytf to ydr conversion with GIMS EVO?
    Google didn't help :/

I'm not sure exactly, probably some variables at play depending on what it is you want to convert etc. I've never used ZModeler, so can't help with that part, but once you get it into 3DS Max if you watch youtube vids & follow the process for creating a new object/model/prop in 3DS MAX through to creating the '.ydr' you'll figure out most, if not all of what you need to do.

Just look for vids that cover converting an object to '.ydr'. So even GTA IV '.wdr' to GTA V '.ydr' ones might be helpful. Otherwise, 'how to create a custom prop for GTA V' etc or any vids on prop creation/conversion should help with the 3DS Max/GIMS Evo part of the process.

Try this (very basic) video to start with:

    Sup.
With Blender and skylumz plugin, you can also edit ytd etc., just not fragments.
I just downloaded GIMS EVO, and like you said, you still need Zmodeler.
    Which is sort of frustrating.
So many years and still no alternatives when it comes to ytf import/export...
    Anyways, thanks for your help.
Won't pay $5/month to export GTA V files though.
    Sup.
