Mod installation setup issues
-
Hi, i'm new to GTA5 story mode modding and can't seem to figure out how to setup mods, I've been watching the tutorial in this video
but at 7:51 he wants people to copy paste stuff into the actual GTA5 launcher folder but I don't see grand theft auto in my folder when i go ThisPC>LocalDisk(C:)>ProgramFiles>Rockstar Games the only thing in the rockstar games is the launcher folder and the social club folder. Anyone have any ideas or a youtube video that's not outdated and will apply to Epic Games?

@Steve5137 Watch the video suggested by @WGotch07 , it is excellent.
For more information, and to save you some major headaches as you go through your journey, you might want to look at this thread, in part or in its entirety.

@WGotch07 thanks
-
@JohnFromGWN thanks aswell

This post is deleted!
-
@WGotch07 so in the very beginning he says that I should find the Grand Theft Auto 5 folder in the social club folder, but I don't see it in there. The only folders inside are locales and swiftshader.
-
@WGotch07 nothing in the epic games folder
-
-
@JohnFromGWN thank you, fun fact it's in documents for some unknown reason. The path for mine is This PC>Documents>My games>GTAV
-
ok so i need help again, the youtube tutorials say to download this https://openiv.com/ but when i do it opens a small box window that just never loads
-
@Steve5137 is there by any chance, a alternative to openIV that'd work?
-
@WGotch07 ok thanks, do you have the links for the discord and the actual codewalker? Looked it up but only see a map creating and editing tool for FiveM unless thats what your talking about.
-
@WGotch07 How will codewalker replace OpenIV since it doesn't load rpf addon files?
-
@Steve5137 You can't load addon rpf files without OpenIV. Nvm codewalker.
-
@WGotch07 I have a feeling if he installed GTA5 in My Documents after failing to find GTA5.exe, that installing a simple piece of software ain't gonna be easy.
-
@JohnFromGWN If codewalker ain't gonna work then what should I use? Cause openIV doesn't work
-
@Steve5137 To help you, provide your PC specifications, also the link where you downloaded OpenIV from. This is an extremely easy installation as long as you have an admin account or permission to install software on your PC. You also need to follow the instructions. I have no idea how you installed GTA5 in your documents folder but I can guess you did something very wrong.
-
@JohnFromGWN https://openiv.com/ that's where i got it from, it's the link used in each video I've watched,
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor 3.40 GHz
64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Windows 10 Home
OS Build 19042.1466
That's all the specs I know how to find, and I don't remember all the stuff on it.
-
@Steve5137 I don't know what to tell you. Try right clicking the installer and select run as admin to install. Make sure you install in the default directory because permissions could be an issue.
-
@JohnFromGWN So I don't know if this link will work but i recorded what my problem is so that maybe if you see what it is you might know how to fix it.
-
@Steve5137
I'm confused after watching your video. In passing, OpenIV doesn't want to be "run as administrator" so I gave you wrong information. Having said that you used "Open" in your video, so it shouldn't have been an issue.I'm wondering if it could be your UAC (user account control) or Anti-Virus or some Malware protection app that is blocking OpenIV. Are using Defender, or SmartScreen, or a third party AV?
I'm going to suggest something else, hoping that it will either work or at least give us an error message to work with.
From a command prompt (NOT an admin command prompt) I want you to navigate to your downloads folder and select run for the setup. Watch the video but your path could be different.
In the video I aborted because I already have it installed.
-
@JohnFromGWN I do not know how to get to the command prompt :|
Should I try turning my antivirus off and then try to open it?
Edit: I found the command prompt but I have no idea how to use it :|
-
@Steve5137
For the command prompt, look at what @JohnFromGWN does in the last vid he posted.
If you have 'ovisetup.exe' in your 'Downloads' folder (move it to there if not) the process will be identical to what John does in the vid.Also, make sure you try this:
-
Hit Windows key + 'I' (so keyboard key with the Windows symbol
on it (usually bottom left area of keyboard), hold it & hit the letter 'i' key)
-
That should open Windows Settings which should look somewhat like this (if not, & it's on some random settings page, use backarrow at top left of box, or
Home button just below it, to get back to the Settings Home page) :
- Click on 'Apps' > & then on the left make sure 'Apps & features' is selected (should go there by default, but just make sure etc)
- At the top of the 'Apps & features' page you should see 'Choose where to get apps'
- Set the drop-down to 'Anywhere' (just make sure it's not set to "The Microsoft Store only (recommended)")
- Now try running 'oivsetup.exe' again. Just double-click it etc
If that doesn't work, there'll be a few other things you can try. I'm pretty sure that box that opens & goes nowhere is for MS Store. It certainly has nothing to do with OpenIV, so likely something like '.exe's are set to always open some Microsoft system app or Windows has you locked down & only able to install apps from the MS Store or something.
When was the last time you successfully installed an '.exe'?
If you haven't installed an '.exe' since this issue occured. Try to install something else & see if you have the same issue? I can vouch for TreeSize Free (9.02MB exe) if you want to test with a new '.exe' etc.If you are having the issue with all '.exe' files then it's defo some system setting causing it.
Try the above & report back anyway. Cheers

@a63nt-5m1th I changed it to Anywhere, prior it was Anywhere but warn me first and now it actually downloaded thank you very much

@Steve5137 Glad @a63nt-5m1th's solution worked for you. Just a reminder how stupid Microsoft is. These are settings I've changed many years ago and completely forgot about.
