Few Things I would like to see in the Forums and in the the Main Site.
-
I'll cut to the chase without typing a long boring introduction like "I was doing this when this thought came to my head blah blah blah". And thanks @LeeC2202, our new moderator, for telling me to post this in public.
Forums
1. Display similar posts when asking a question in Requests, Mod Installation Help and Troubleshooting, Modding Discussion and maybe in Off-Topic Discussions.
I've seen a lot of similar posts asking basically the same thing over and over again.
For an example, about our friend Romito's Redux.
Or about gameconfig.xml.
Or about installing an add-on.Let's say I started to type a question in Mod Installation Help and Troubleshooting section, asking where I should put the gameconfig.xml file. After typing the topic, a pop-up or something similar containing links of similar posts should appear asking to read them first before posting, of course with an ignore button. It would save a lot of time for us users and would save space.
2. Mark as answer button.
This should come in handy in the Mod Installation Help and Troubleshooting section.
It should work the same way as a pinned comment. It doesn't have to be in the very top of the thread, but it should be highlighted or something. It should save some time for others with the same problem. To prevent other users making their comment as the answer, the privilege should be given only to Admin, moderators and the original poster.3. Adding CAPTCHA/reCAPTCHA when joining the site or maybe even when typing a new post.
I know this is a pain in the ass, but after witnessing the unpleasant spamming incidents, this seems like a good idea.
Main Site
1. Advanced Search feature.
I'm sure a lot of people would like this. The Forums site has an excellent custom search feature, why not add it to the main site where it's needed the most?
2. Notifications coming to the phone/PC even when the site is not opened, similar to Facebook and Twitter notifications (Push Notifications)
This is not really necessary, after all, this site is about gaming, which is just a hobby for most people. But give it a thought anyway.
3. Make the site optimized for all mobile devices.
This site may work fine on most people's apple devices, but I cannot give 5 stars for a mod when I use my dad's Huawei Tab. I can only give 4.5 stars. There are some few other issues as well.
That's it. Thanks for reading!

Number 1 is definitely a good idea. When I am on developer sites that have that feature, I frequently find related topics that avoid me having to post a new question. It's very rare that the question a person has, is unique.
Number 2 is one I'm not a fan of. I think using Microsoft's site and Stack Exchange has ruined the concept for me. Then again, those are sites that offer rewards for the user having their post marked as the answer, so maybe it wouldn't be as bad if there was nothing to gain from it.
Number 3 would be a very good idea as a probationary tool for new users, could work well tied in with reputation score. Having it as number of posts based leads to spamming and as spamming earns you negative reputation, it would be useless to do so.
I only really use the site through my desktop, so I can't say much about the Main Site features. Push notifications could be useful but I think that has to be enabled on a browser level. I can't see anything other than the desktop version of the site when I do use my tablet... I keep meaning to ask about that because my tablet isn't happy trying to display the full desktop version.
Definitely some useful features though.

@LeeC2202 About the tablet problem, I have the exact issue.

One more thing I would like to see in the Forums:
Multiple language support.
People helped a lot to translate the main site to different languages, I'm sure they'll happily agree to translate this too.
-
To your forums suggestions, basically if it's not a part of NodeBB or an available plugin, I probably won't be adding it sorry. That said, the forums already support multiple languages, which you can change in your forums settings.
All your main site requests are on my radar and I'll keep you all updated if I'm able to address them soon.
-
@rappo Thanks for replying, although I doubt there's support for my native language in the forums. I'm happy to use English anyway.
-
@Akila_Reigns If you'd like to contribute your native language, you can do it for NodeBB here: https://www.transifex.com/nodebb/nodebb. If you'd like to translate the main site, you can direct message me for details.
-
@rappo I don't think there are many people who play Grand Theft Auto V in my country. I'm the only one I know who play it, none of my friends play games.
Thanks for the opportunity but I think that would be a waste of time.
-
@Akila_Reigns You're right, there are only about 5,000 visits per month from your country so translating the main site may not be very useful
Translating NodeBB may be worthwhile since that is forums software used globally for all kinds of different forums, but of course it will be difficult and time-consuming to translate the whole thing, so that's up to you! Anyway, of your main site feature requests, advanced search is one of my top priorities at this point.
-
@rappo 5000? I thought more like 50-100 visits per month. 😂
Thanks for your time, let us know if you add some features to the site.
-
@rappo is there a way to show a globe/map showing per day or week/month visits from countries around the globe? from ip address, i love that feature on some sites. im not sure if its hard to implement or not , but its a fancy thing i like.
-
@FoxtrotDelta That is something I'm not very fond of, but if others like it, I will agree to it too.
