I need permission to place files into my gta folder
-
So I never had an issue with this until recently. After I installed mods, everything worked fine until scripthook had some issues with updates so I tried to downgrade. When that wasn't working, I gave up and came back a while later assuming it had updated. After I installed the new version, it claimed I couldn't place it in the folder because "you need permission to perform this action". I am an administrator on my PC and I have full control, and I also gave myself permissions for that specific folder to be able to modify it. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Who is "it claimed"? Was this a GTA message, a Windows message?????
-
@JohnFromGWN "it claimed" is windows. and I'm trying to put my files into a folder, so it's obviously a windows message.
-
@scout888 Make sure the folder is set for "Everyone" - being an admin in Windows is meaningless at times.
-
@JohnFromGWN how do I get to share permissions?
-
@JohnFromGWN Okay I found it, I did it, and it still didn't work.
-
@scout888 Which folder is giving you grief, the GTA5 folder? Or the Mods folder? Posting the folder name and a pic of your security would help. Keep in mind this not a sharing setting, it's a security setting.
And in passing, this shouldn't happen in the first place. Could be your UAC settings too.
-
@JohnFromGWN It's the GTA folder. And when I went to the setting it looked just like that.
-
@scout888 The picture is wrong, sorry, it should be the Security tab you want, not share - you're not sharing this folder.
-
@JohnFromGWN my username has privileges, but that didn't work so I tried giving the creator permissions but everytime I give perms to the creator it immediately removes it.
-
@scout888 i don't know what is causing your issue, it shouldn't happen, and what you're describing is a windows issue rather than a GTA5 issue.
GTA5 does not require any user intervention during the installation or post installation. Your issue is probably due to your user account control or just user settings. Changing security to allow "everyone " should work and does not pose any security risks given it's restricted to GTA5 game. Or maybe it's your Defender or AV settings or some dumb Windows setting.
My advice is to Google your issue as a Windows issue, don't even mention it is GTA5.
-
@JohnFromGWN I'm mentioning it as a GTA issue because this is the only folder causing problems like this.
-
@scout888 I understand, but it's still a Windows fix, not a GTA fix.
-
@JohnFromGWN I'm aware. Do you have any other ideas on how to fix this?
-
@scout888
Only things i would try is to:- move all your folder files out, then delete the GTA5 folder, manually recreate a new GTA5 folder, move files back.
Or
- move just your mod files out, uninstall GTA5 thru Steam or whatever, and then most importantly delete the GTA5 folder. Once folder is deleted, then reinstall GTA5 letting it recreate a new folder.
Normally your saved game file should not be affected but back it up as well as any customized Rockstar files in my documents or appdata.
In passing did you ever move or play around with GTA5 folder after your install? Or reinstall it in a second path?
You might also want to install accepting all the default locations as well, just to be safe and remove variables.
