Notebook (used/cheap) for GTA5
-
Hi all,
I am away on business for a while.... (months) and my notebook is having problems here... so I'm thinking of changing notebooks, so I'm thinking of getting one (used, cheap) that I can run GTA5 on, so I could also continue work on my missions.Can you suggest a notebook, (old/cheap) that will definitely run GTA5 well on?

nobody?

@alebal Seriously?
Check the minimum system requirements for GTA5 and then go on ebay or best buy or newegg or whatever and look for a refurbished or inexpensive model that hopefully exceeds minimum requirements and has at least a 30 day warranty.
-
I've seen people on reddit cursing after getting a notebook with the requirements, and after a few updates GTA didn't work anymore...
that's why I'm asking here before buying something, I'm asking for confirmation from someone who has a notebook that still works with GTA...
Hope it's clear now...

@alebal what does still works mean? If you look at the posts here there are nothing but problems. You could have a $10,000 gaming computer and still have issues. Updates routinely break the game.
Again, what does works mean? 20 FPS? 100FPS?
That's why you need to meet or exceed requirements. A notebook is really a piece of shit when it comes to gaming, so you get what you pay for.
If you don't have a budget for a powerful computer then it's really a crap shoot. You'll be super lucky if you can run a game like this with a POS.
Good luck.

What's your budget?

Who knows, I was hoping you would tell me....
I was really hoping someone would reply saying , I have this laptop, with this cpu, this ram, this video card, etc. and gta runs decently, and at that point I would go and look online for that pc (or very similar) and see how much it costs...
I don't demand 1000000FPS, but that it works... I'm looking for a used one, it doesn't have to cost me a kidney....
Here you can see my missions http://gta5newmissions.altervista.org/, photos and videos were taken with the pc I left at home, so it would be perfect...

The laptop I used from 2015 to 2021, and is what I used for playing/modding GTA5, had these specs:
CPU: Intel i7-4710HQ
GPU: NVidia GTX 970M
RAM: 16 GBThe laptop got pretty hot, but that's normal for gaming laptops. I don't remember FPS or anything, but it ran GTA5 pretty good. $550 on eBay for the model I had: https://www.ebay.com/itm/234372848016

@Jitnaught @alebal
"Laptop comes as is - MUST STAY PLUGGED IN, "In the description. Have seen this happen many times and it defeats the purpose of having a portable.
Other common issue is defective batteries and defective charging circuits - probably why it needs to stay plugged in.
-
@JohnFromGWN Doesn't help that even if the battery is working, it only lasts maybe an hour when gaming, and maybe 5 when not gaming.

@Jitnaught Buying a cheap/used laptop is a risky business, particularly when brand new rigs are already poorly made, essentially by the same factory, despite the branding.
@alebal If you absolutely need to go the cheap/used way, try at least to get a warranty - if it doesn't break in the first day or 10 days, you can be hopeful it will last a year or so, with your fingers crossed of course.
