Gta 5 crashes after a random amount of gameplay time.



  • I have added some addon cars and at first it would work great when the amount was low but then I installed some more for which I had to install custom gameconfig, heaplimitadjuster and packfile but still the game continues to crash. I have the "forest of SA", rde, rca, custom engine sound mod and some map mods. Does any of them cause the game to crash. The game stops crashing once I disable/remove the mods folder. I have tried lowering the amount of cars in the game but still it crashes now.



  • @Inferno3248A I noticed that was happening to me after some time went by even when making a number of changes to try to stop it. looks like the game is just running out of memory for some reason after playing for a while and I'm also noticing that random cars that are destroyed never despawn like they should and I'm guessing that's adding to the memory loss and it makes the game crash eventually.

    And yes, it will still crash after a while even if I don't go on a rampage and start destroying stuff.



  • @MegaTBull Are you trying to say that there is fixes for this? I have seen many people add vehicles and I have also done it before. I haven't seen that car do despawn in my game.



  • @Inferno3248A What heap adjuster are you using? I downloaded the 650 one because it was the most downloaded one but then I changed it and set it to 10000 and I dont crash as much

    I have installed the both them and I haven't ever edited anything in the file because I don't know much about it and before I never needed it. I am wondering now if installing both of them at once cause any issue.



  • Delete the 600mb and edit the other one like showed in the vid



  • @Inferno3248A you don't install both heap mods, only one, and unless you have 1000 vehicle addons you don't need to play with any values.

    If none of these options work, turn on your FPS and start disabling and enabling map or huge mods until you find the ones causing memory issues or other game instabilities. Forest definitely sucks up resources.

    Youtube videos reflect the owner's specific hardware, software, and game configuration so they are hit or miss.

    Unless you're playing on a underpowered laptop you don't need to tweak heap or gameconfig.xml. And set traffic to base to start.



  • @JohnFromGWN I have uninstalled the heapadjuster 600 mb of heap and installed the other one (had it installed) but the game still crashed I have the heap at 750 mb do I increase it. I don't see any kinds of error in the scripthookv or scripthookvdotnet logs so I am sure none of the scripts cause the crash.



  • @izveni21 I did edit it to 10000 but now after a long time the game says out of game memory. I



  • @Inferno3248A could be so many things, hardware, bad drivers, outdated net framework, poor installation. It could even be a corrupt save game.

    Please don't listen to garbage advice to increase values in heap and tweak gameconfig.xml. The correct process is to identify what is causing the issue.

    You want to decrease variables and potential causes, not increase them by playing with files you don't fully understand because some guy on YouTube says his fix is a one size fits all magic bullet.

    You have not provided enough info to help because remote troubleshooting is like a patient telling a doctor over the phone his stomach hurts, what should he do?

    Please check out this thread. It will help to confirm your modding environment is setup properly, provide possible issues to troubleshoot, and also the best way to describe your situation when asking for help.

    Some issues posted here are obvious, many are not, and those are the ones where a systematic approach is required.

    The best starting point is to first ensure game runs well without any mods. Next step is a verify integrity if it crashed without mods.

  • @JohnFromGWN I'll inform you about something that I have a second copy of gta 5 in which I have lspdfr installed and the same mods except the 2 map mods in modded gta 5. The lspdfr copy doesn't crash at all.

    Some of the logs files show some errors but errors in mods folder I don't know about those. Scripts error can be seen in scripthookvdotnet logs.

    You can't ignore errors. They could be the cause. Post the error messages here.

  • @Inferno3248A remove the scripts causing warnings and errors, whether they are the cause or not for your issues they certainly have no reason to be there.

    Given your game is stable without mods, you know have to find what is causing the issue which could be mods, scripts, or unlikely an asi. This assuming proper gameconfig.xml and associated files.

    Please try this:

    If your game is now suddenly broken (crash, hangs, etc):

    Troubleshooting Guide
    Step 1. Run the game without mods. You want to rule out any hardware, PC software, or game file issues and ensure your game runs stably in vanilla mode - without any mods - no scripts, no addons, no trainers. You don't need to uninstall anything at this point. Instructions: Simply rename dinput8.dll which you will find in your root folder (where GTA5.exe is) to dinput8.bak and start your game. If your game nows runs properly without mods and without incident, move to the next step. You now know your game itself is fine. If it doesn't run, start with a Verify Integrity, and worst case a complete reinstall with a new saved game file as well.
    Step 2. Disable your scripts folder. You want to rule out script or script conflict issues. Instructions: First ensure dinput8.dll has been renamed to its original name, then rename your scripts folder to Xscripts (or whatever you want). Again start your game. If your game runs stably with the scripts folder disabled, you know the problem is with one or a combination of scripts. Uninstall them, one or in small groups, and reinstall until you find the problem. If your game still doesn't run while all your scripts are disabled, you can now suspect the Mods Folder.
    Step 3. Disable your mods folder. You want to rule out addon mod or mod conflict issues. The mods folder includes key files such as dlclist.xml, gameconfig.xml, and your Dlcpacks folder with addon peds, vehicles, etc. Instructions: First rename the scripts folder back to its original name, then rename the Mods folder to XMods (or whatever you want). You do not need to edit dlclist.xml. Just start your game. If your game runs with the mods folder disabled, you have an issue with one or a combination of mods. Once more, uninstall them, one or in small groups, and reinstall until you find the problem. Ensure you do not have any syntax errors in dlclist.xml and that your gameconfig is installed and updated along with heap and pack adjuster mods.
    Step 4. Disable your asi mods. The last step is to ensure it is not a trainer or other asi file that is causing issues. It is less likely to be your trainer, but it could be an .asi mod that is outdated, conflicting, or just not right for your system . Use the same process of renaming the mods, but go one by one. Don't rename OpenIV, it's not necessary. Also make sure to change .asi extension to something like .bak, if you keep the extension as .asi it will still try to be loaded by dinput8.dll and could cause issues.

    I have fixed the problem even though I am not so sure what the problem was this is what I think.
    The gameconfig I was using was not going with the game so I had to install gameconfig by dilapidated https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/gameconfig-xml-dilapidated
    I was using map mods which could save vehicles and when I deleted the addon vehicles it messed up the game while trying to load the car. I have installed all the addon cars I had installed and now the game works fine.
