Wish me luck - looking for Pattern Error Cause



  • Ok. So I modified my game back to a regular structure and updated all components.
    This is the first time I start the game and actually wish for it to crash - and it did!
    I'm going to start troubleshooting now, and I hope I can find the cause. If i do, maybe we can also find a solution.

    Stay tuned. Just started looking at the problem.

  • Update 1.

    I can't run the game in vanilla mode. Can you guys run it without mods? My game crashes vanilla which is strange asF.

    I'm doing a verify integrity as we speak.



  • Update 2. I can't run the game vanilla. Only if i revert. Sorry I won't be able to go further. Did a verify integrity, 1 file failed. Renamed dinput8.dll so no mods will load, didn't get in more than 1 second during load.

    LMAO. Yours truly screwed up renaming dinput8.dll.
    I always tell ppl to rename it dinput8.bak and I guess to covid brain i renamed it dinput8bak.dll and ofc it still loaded and that's why my game crashed.

    Ok vanilla runs now but it really looks like the issue is interaction with gta5.exe, and the loading of RAGE i guess, and the packfile mod.

    The reasoning on my part is simple. GTA5.exe version 2372, game runs. GTA5.exe from update, game will crash.



  • Ok, I can confirm that the Update will allow asi files (trainers) and scripts to run.

    I did this by removing the packfile mod and renaming my mods folder.

    Not a huge leap, but we've eliminated some variables, although I don't think this can be fixed without updating packfile mod - if that's even possible and assuming the creator will work on it.

    Increasing the packfile size was a relative no-brainer compared to this new issue. Because Rockstar obviously made some important changes to RAGE and to fix that will mean hacking it. Good luck.



  • @JohnFromGWN Just curious if I've updated my game is completely up to date am I able to use previous .EXE and ScriptHook? don't know how many custom DLC folders the game allows without the packfile mod?

    yes, absolutely.

    I have a fully updated Steam game with the GTA5.exe from 2372.

    Now I also use the SH5 from 2372 but in theory SH5 is backwards compatible. Im not a fan of backwards compatibility and this is certainly untrue for SHVDN.

    Probably depends on the complexity of the dlc as well. I never used the Packfile mod until 2372. By that time i had hundreds of peds, vehicles, MLOs, and maps, so i needed it for stability.

    Old timers here will tell you combine dlc into dlcpacks to reduce the number but i never had to and im against that approach because if your game crashes due to a bad addon good luck troubleshooting a dlcpack with 50 cars.

    If your game can't handle dlcpacks it's time to get a desktop with sufficient RAM and VRAM.
