Is your system still crashing?

  • If it is crashing, after the update, and with the new packfile mod can you post here.

Things to keep in mind after this unexpected clusterf**k update.

    1. A new gameconfig.xml, updated for the latest patch, is usually required after an update.

    2. The packfile limit adjuster came out quickly and was not tested thoroughly (as per the author).

    3. There is no guarantee the update didn't break other asi files (including SHVDN).

    4. Without any disrespect, SH5 came out very quickly as well - was it tested adequately given this update was definitely unique - first time we needed another mod update just to load the game.

Also, remember to backup your dlclist.xml if you allow OpenIV to update your update.rpf. Also backup any files you customized in update.rpf (the one in your mods folder). Your gameconfig.xml will also be overwritten but you can reinstall it (or back it up) or wait for an update.

  • i installed the new packfile, updated my update.rpf, installed the new version of sh5 and my game still crashes at launch, and i don't remember using any gameconfig.

  • crashes when entering story mode
The gameconfig I backed up is not working
    Damn! rockstar

  • @JohnFromGWN i've tried everything you've said, i also don't think i've ever used a gameconfig mod, my game doesnt even get to the gamemode selection, it just does the police lights thing at the begining an the screen turns black after thatthe game just closes, please help.

  • @meerty the update is new and you have to be patient and wait for the proper gameconfig.xml mod to be released. The first step was updating SH5 and that's done.

Next we found packfile mod no longer worked and it was updated as well, very quickly, but not tested thoroughly on all systems.

Third step, unless we find more issues is to get an updated gameconfig.xml from @F7YO or @Dilapidated. These are the 2 most reliable in my opinion.

As for having a stable game, if modded extensively with addons, you absolutely need a gameconfig.xml mod together with the packfile mod and the heap adjuster recommended for your gameconfig.xml.

  • oh okay, thanks.

  • @JohnFromGWN do you know which files in update.rpf and/or update2.rpf were updated/installed after the latest update?

Is it just another dlc.rpf in /dlcpacks/ that we have to add or does it mess with the other files? Reason I'm asking is if we have to uninstall all of our mods (especially graphically intensive mods like NVE and/or QuantV etc.), then copy the vanilla update.rpf and/or update2.rpf files, and finally reinstall everything?

If it's the latter, I am NOT updating for now until the issues are worked out. Las thing I need is for the game to be broken again with every goddamn worthless update from Rockstar.

Sick of these GTA Online updates tbh.

  • @Suzerain001 if you haven't updated yet, then backup your GTA5.exe and update the game, then restore your GTA5.exe.

That's it, that's all. I've done this for every update after 2372.

If OpenIV nags you to update your update.rpf, simply ignore it.

If you want, for whatever reason, to spawn the new vehicles you can try to add their dlcpacks to your dlclist.xml. This doesn't work for me but apparently it works for others. You can always manually convert the new vehicles to addons and there are mods to help you create addons for vehicles too.

I'm going to reiterate that all Steam users need to do if they want to revert is backup GTA5.exe and nothing else. No packfile issues, no crashes, no Menyoo clothing issues, no falling through the ground, and you can still use any new peds or dlc vehicles from updates if you wish.

This solution is basically perfect and could not be simpler.

One final note, after each update I keep the updated GTA5.exe and the corresponding SH5 in their own little backup folder just in case i ever need them. Why SH5? Because although it claims to be backwards compatible that hasn't been my experience.

  • Mine doesn't crash, but it loads forever till you quit. Now its playing online (boring) and using the cracked one to enjoy the mods.

  • To anyone following this thread. It's normal to experience issues after a GTA5 update. Not sure if Rockstar does it on purpose or because they hate modders or both.

Here is what you can try, but no guarantees it will work.

    1. Install the updated gameconfig.xml mod found here. This is the only one at time of writing updated for the Criminal Enterprise except for one found on the LSPDFR site which is not necessarily the best choice. Don't download the other crap the author recommends unless you absolutely need them, most of it is useless except heap and pack. You want to eliminate variables, not add more.

    2. Download and install the HeapAdjuster mod but only if you haven't already installed it. It has not been updated since 2019.

    3. Download and install the Packfile limit adjuster mod. There is only one available and it has recently been updated.

    4. Don't add any new mods or scripts or other crap until your game is stable.

    5. If necessary, remove the new dlc from your dlclist.xml (the list in your mods folder, mpsum2, patchday27ng, mpsum2_g9ec, and patchday27g9ecng).

Not sure what else can be done, other than revert.

  • So I ran through all the hurdles with 'packfile' and 'gameconfig' over two hours and reading thread posts to figure things out. Finally got it working. 'However', I haven't put the update content in yet. Much as the basic level of the update alone broke the game, I don't want to take the chance of it getting completely wrecked putting the new content in. So far, I haven't seen much worth bothering with. There were at least 4 DLC pack additions to the vanilla version an a second .rpf file. It will probably be a nightmare trying to get it to work with all my installed maps! Seems like 'R' is slowly closing in on modding for gta v, because it gets to be more work after each update and (at least with the retail version) launcher fix it gets harder to play offline.

  • @iammistahwolf you can try to load the new dlc and just remove it if it isn't stable. Personally i have no use for these vanilla cars or any MP peds. I update because Steam forces me to.

I'm thinking of removing all the dlc from the game, just to decrease the crap loaded in memory.

  • Game worked fine by manually not updating it to the latest crapola update.

However, latest build of QuantV was released and that installs stuff to the new dlc.rpf file(s). So, I grudgingly updated the files/game to the latest version, put all the latest files (ScriptHookV, PackFileLimitAdjuster etc.) and sure enough, the game crashes to desktop on loading Story Mode.

I cannot begin to state how much I despise Rockstar Games; they release useless "online only" updates which do nothing but break the game (for those of us who play only for the mods in SP).

So, need help in fixing the game to get it to work. I have all the updated files, included the latest dlc.rpf files in the dlclist.xml file along with updated gameconfig.xml etc.

    Can someone please help?

    The OpenIV.log shows this:

    04/08/2022 11:55:14.594 [2220] TRACE: [fiDeviceLocal::getFileAttr] 'x64/levels/gta5/script/script.rpf'
    04/08/2022 11:55:14.682 [2220] TRACE: [fiPackfile::openArchive] 'dlc_patchDay3NG:/x64/models/cdimages/patchday3ng.rpf'
    04/08/2022 11:55:14.682 [2220] TRACE: [fiPackfile::openArchive] 'platform:/anim/creaturemetadata.rpf'

My HeapAdjuster is set to 10,000 as it has always been and it has worked beautifully in the past with all my mods. PackLimitFileAdjuster is set to twice of the ArchiveCount amount as stated in the instructions - 22,032.

Using F7YO's latest gameconfig.xml - the one inside the 'more mods' folder.

  • @Suzerain001 Never seen a company that despised its customer base so much.

They don't update the game for modders, they update it for GTAO.

They didn't break the game, your mods did.

  • @JohnFromGWN have you been able to update the game and get it to work with mods (i.e. latest gameconfig.xml by F7YO)?

Steam forces me to update, but thankfully only once, so all my files are updated. Then i revert back to 2372.

Did i try to play mods with the update? At the time of the update SH5 was not available and we had the added issue of pattern errors linked to the Packfile limit adjuster which wasn't updated either.

Once those files were updated, out of sympathy for those with broken games, i copied over the Contract version of GTA5.EXE and the game loaded fine. I then went to an MLO and fell through the map, which validated the need to revert
    .

Since then, the following advice has helped some users, it is logical but can't work for everyone.

Here is what you can try, but no guarantees it will work.

  • @JohnFromGWN already did all of that - only the Packfile Limit Adjuster has been updated. Still crashes on load.

Did find out one issue - VehfuncsV no longer works (v1.4) so have to downgrade that to v1.3 but now I get infinite loading screen instead of CTD. I uninstalled QuantV and just have the add-on packs for vehicles, maps, wheels etc.

Next step is to try disabling all the ASI (script) mods and see if that works.

What an absolute PITA this is.

The bigger problem is even if I downgrade the game to the previous version, QuantV installs files to the latest dlc.rpf files so it doesn't work (!!). I have to install the "old" version of QuantV (or some other mod) which defeats the purpose anyway.

Rockstar Games will never get a penny from me ever again.

  • @Suzerain001 Do you honestly think that when Rockstar works on an update their top priority is to assemble a team of programmers and testers and give them this mandate:

Ok guys. The modding community comes first. Your job is to test all 50,000 mods out there on every piece of hardware and software and ensure the new update is 100% compatible with all those mods, particularly visual mods and models with 10,000 polygons and also Liberty City and SA mods - especially those - cuz we don't want to lose any money from our users.

Wake up bro and smell the Cool Beans.

  • @JohnFromGWN Of course I don't think that. Stop shilling for Rockstar. I can express my frustration in any way I please. Nobody asked for your commentary about my comments.

Either help with the question posed or keep quiet.

  • @Suzerain001

So you paid $10 bucks for a game released in 2015.

Of course that logically entitles you to determine the direction which Rockstar should take with GTA5. Afterall it's clearly stated in the EULA that their priority and commitment, to you personally, will be to ensure that your modded version will take precedence over GTAO and other revenue streams. Remember T2 is a non-profit, registered as a charitable entity.

Im sorry that with all the help you received from other forum members you still can't figure out how to fix your game. I mean the fix is simple, it's not rocket science. There must be what, 100,000, or 1,000,000+ ppl playing the updated version without issues, so maybe, just maybe you're in the unlucky minority?

But what do i know, im just a shill for the gaming industry,

  • @JohnFromGWN So you "bought" the game on seedy websites for $10. No need to project - when I bought the game in 2015 it was $60.

Keep shilling for Rockstar and making useless comments without actually helping anyone. Your posts are useless but go ahead and keep at it. Rockstar could hire you as a professional shill. Keep trying kid.

  • @Suzerain001 said in Is your system still crashing?:

So you "bought" the game on seedy websites for $10.

No, just one seedy website, called Steam, but next time i'll see if it's cheaper on the seedy sites.

Shame you can no longer play modded games like everyone else. Thankfully you can still play SP without mods or GTAO, so don't despair. And don't worry about ever buying another Rockstar game, GTA6 won't be as good.

I'm sorry my posts are useless. Hopefully you can find a 6 year old to fix it remotely for you.

Good luck and enjoy the vanilla game, that's how Rockstar intended it to be played. I mean who needs mods!

  • @JohnFromGWN too bad for you I got the game working fully modded. your worthless posts are just that - worthless and of no help at all.

continue shilling kid. you might get a free costume for your GTAO character.

  • @Suzerain001

I'm happy for you and I'm glad my thread and posts helped you find a solution. You see, it wasn't that hard, right?

If you need more help, please let me know. It'll be my pleasure.

Anyway, I have to go play online now. How do I get the new costume? I hope it's anime or manga.
