Why can't we have all loading screens in story mode?



  • Hi! I can see all loading screens files (35) in 'update.rpf' (using OpenIV), but when the game is loading story mode, I always get the same old story mode loading screens (10 or so), and all the online loading screens are not played. Is there a way to make the game load all files? (loadingscreen0.ytd --> loadingscreen35.ytd)



  • There's more loading screens, called "loadingscreennew".
    The ones you replaced can only be seen when loading a save or replaying a mission.
    I don't know where the location is atm, but I'll come back when I know the path.



  • Hey bro! I searched "loadingscreennew" in OpenIV, no results. I haven't replaced any files (and even if I did it doesn't matter).
    The path to the loading screens is: "update.rpf\x64\data\cdimages\scaleform_platform_pc.rpf". In this image you can see all loading screens named "loadingscreen0.ytd --> loadingscreen35.ytd". I never see all of them being played when loading up the game, to refine it let's say I'm only getting main characters, ladies, and other male characters loading screens.
    I never saw: loadingscreen10 - chinese dude, loadingscreen13 - Maude, loadingscreen15 - yoga pose, loadingscreen20 - Lazlow. I think 'loadingscreen24' and above are online loading screens.
    So here's what we have - all the loading screens with same numbered names, but only some are showing, as if there's some sort of limit, or a list file telling the game which loading screens to load. Now I could just replace some of the online loading screens with the one's I'm getting (like copying 'loadingscreen24', naming it 'loadingscreen5', replacing it with the original, and then it'll show, but that's not the point, the point is to get al least those 35-36 loading screens all together (if not, eventually I'll see again the same 10 or so loading screens and I'll get used to them as well)
    So for the love of god, why isn't the game loading all loading screens?

    'loadingscreen_startup.ytd' will always display first no matter what:

    ...\Grand Theft Auto V\mods\update\update.rpf\x64\data\cdimages\scaleform_frontend.rpf\loadingscreen_startup.ytd

    As to the other ones in:

    ...\Grand Theft Auto V\mods\update\update.rpf\x64\data\cdimages\scaleform_platform_pc.rpf

    If you use a different save or progress the story mode a bit & save, different ones will display. You'll see them all eventually if you do that :thumbsup:



  • Thank you for replying. I know about 'loadingscreen_startup.ytd'.
    As for the progress suggestion I was really hoping you're right, it sounded promising, but unfortunately it didn't work.
    Indeed I was on a 12% save, so I downloaded a 100% save, and loaded the game 15 times or so, but the loading screens didn't change. I also saved it in-game so that the game will start with that save when first loading the game, still same loading screens. I tried replaying a few missions, that also didn't work. Basically every time the game is loading [a save, mission. progress, whatever] with the loading screens in the background, it's the same ones.
    Really want this to work but it doesn't seem to have an easy solution, maybe something's fucked up in my game files idk.

    Had you used a downloaded 100% save file previous to noticing this issue? If so, might be that once you complete the game (or use someone elses save file) loading screens get locked in or something (I've never completed the game (on PC anyway) & a new save/mission progress has always worked to shuffle the load screens for me). Maybe, try starting a completely new game, right from the prologue & see if anything changes?

    If that doesn't work (or you could even try this first if you wanted):

    Create new 'pc_settings.bin' & 'cfg.dat' files:

    • Search your C: (OS Install) drive for 'pc_settings.bin' & 'cfg.dat' (they should both be in the same Rockstar/Socialclub etc related folder together (ie don't delete any files of those names if you find them alone, on their own or in a folder unrelated to GTA V :thumbsup:).
    • Make a backup of them & then delete/move them
    • New ones will be created next time you start the game.
    • Any bloat/corruption that may have appeared in those files (if it indeed has) should then be cleared.
    • It shouldn't affect your game in any other way.


  • Either loadingscreen_newgame.gfx or loadingscreen_startup.gfx is what sets the order of loading screens and which textures are used, although i'm not sure if it's possible to change this, as it's part of action code which is probably not easily editable



  • @Itzhak880 Not quite the answer you want but I just chose the ones I like, added a few custom ones like the old gen female cop arresting the other woman and a few others and set them as the loading screens. Plus removed the foreground people pics coz I didn't like them and changed the music coz the default music sux.



  • Progress: i got GTA Online loading screens in singleplayer without replacing the texture files themselves

    This is done through the GFX edit, gonna work on getting all of them to work, funny that only textures 1, 5, 9, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 are used, leaving 0, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 unused, that means it needs a bit more effort to make them appear in game since they're missing definitions in the file



  • Best loading screen approach is to get up, take a piss, go get a coffee, and hopefully when you get back you won't see a message that says "would you like to check for non existing scripthook updates rather than play? "





  • @gtavjamal thanks but i read it no longer works?

    What i would love to know is how Steam knows your game has been updated and no longer nags you. It's definitely not by looking at any gta5.exe because i revert. So is it a registry entry, a flag somewhere in a file? I doubt it is account linked. Going to research this, hopefully it uses a common mechanism for all games.



  • @JohnFromGWN I take those comments with a grain of salt. Many times I have seen people saying a mod doesn't work and it works fine with 2372. But yeah it may not work anymore? Tbh. I cant ever remember seeing that SHV check message but I may have subconsciously clicked it away lol.

    best would be a script bypassing whatever the exe wants to pick so you can actually enjoy the custom loading screens you've put in, instead of seeing the same bunch when loading up your modded racing simulation, I mean V game



  • @ReNNie That's what I got now. Only the screens I want show. But a script is always nice. Btw. Apologies for the derail.
