new update so im asking

  • can i just easly downgrade my game as usual? i mean replace gta V exe and update rpf?

  • @Wolfix Yes. I just did. Copied 2372 over and no issues, no need to wait for SH5, no broken mods etc.

Not sure what you need update.rpf for if you're just reverting.

Hey, what do you exactly mean by "as usual" ? I got back to playing GTAV just few days ago after around 2 years and this todays update cought me offguard. Id really appreciate it if you shared your way to downgrade the game, I`ve been looking all over for the files but I cannot find them

  • @don_pedro

Unfortunately the way to downgrade the game requires a backup.
Only one file is required to restore your game from a backup and that's GTA5.exe.
If you have a backup, you're good.
If you don't, you'll need to find one but it's against forum/site rules to share files here.
If you're on Steam you can try to download an older file from the depots.

If you can't find a replacement GTA5.exe, you can try solutions here below. All require some patience.

  • @JohnFromGWN alright, thanks. I`ve got the regular version of the game so I guess I need to wait for the SH update since I looked everywhere for the older backups

  • @don_pedro Yes, just remember that the updated SH5 only allows you to launch GTA5 with mods. Generally speaking you might encounter a crash or infinite loop even with the updated SH5. That is usually solved by an updated gameconfig.xml. Then, since this is a minor update, things should be ok.

However, in your case, if you haven't updated in 2 years you may have other issues such as falling through the map on addon maps like LC.

  • Is there anything that can be done while It's reinstalling? I know it pops up with downloading updates once its installed the game

  • @Woz4l What does reinstalling mean? The game updates and you can't play modded until scripthook 5 is updated. This can happen quickly, a day or so, but who knows particulalrly when the author has posted that he is currently in a war zone.

This is why you should keep a backup of GTA5.exe, before each update, so you can revert back.

  • Restoring GTAV.exe was not really working for me as SC still pushed me to update this file. I use retail CD version. Then I hit that PLAY button very quickly just after copying backup file and magic it launched.

  • I have a question. I am new to using mods and understand that I have to wait for new script hook update. I have tried down grading or reverting back to my backup GTAV version, but I cannot get Rockstar from auto updating even when I have turned off the auto update on the launcher. Is there any way around this or do I have to wait for the script hook update? I have read previous post and watched tutorials on how to use backup versions but can't get them to work. I don't mind the wait if that's the only solution. Thank you in advance and apologies if this has been answered already.

  • @Wolfix these updates getting ridiculous arent they go work on GTA 6 RIGHT WOLF DAMN LOL THEY BE BUGGING LOL

  • @mzimm1468 In 8 years since the launch of GTA 5, not a single person has figured out how to stop an update.

Pretty sad. Some have created bypass launchers which no longer work, some have used emulators, but nobody has the brains to figure out how to stop an update.

A flag has to be set for R* to know if the game is updated or not. If that flag is loaded locally, it could be found and end the update problem.

If the flag is in the cloud..well that's a tougher one but there should still be a way to fool R*. I can vouch for Steam that it doesn't check GTA5.exe on startup because mine is version 2372.

So, no, you can't stop an update.

However you can revert back to a previous version of Steam, and as AFAIK on Epic Games version as well, but not on the Retail/disk version.

Once reverted on Steam you will not be nagged again until the next update - hence my point that Steam only does 1 verification per update. Ofc if you do a verify integrity it will replace your GTA5.exe.

  • @WashH Why would R* want to work on GTA 6 when kids will pay $100 for a car on GTAO?

GTA 6 will just cannibalize GTAO revenue. So don't hold your breath for GTA 6 and start backing up your GTA 5 files for the next update unless you like problems.

  • How do I get hold of an old version, pre update, from steam? or epic games. Is there an option to download an old version?

  • @JohnFromGWN I dont use a ton of mods, just a few for realism. Just a day before this bloody update everything was working like a charm. I had no crashes eventhough I had World Of Variety, latest gameconfig did the job. I even thought about updating the Ambient Loadouts mod I posted here a few years back cause theres a lot of new guns in the game, would be nice to see the gangs using them. God, I really hate this RS`s policy of having the game updated all the time. Do they really think people like me will get back to playing Online? Hell nah

  • @don_pedro They don't care about us because we already gave them our money - and ofc lots of ppl pirate the game as well.

GTAO? Well that's another story. That's how they make their money....not from me, not from you...but from tons of idiots who love paying for crap.

  • @JohnFromGWN There is a way but as far as I know it's against site rules.
(Mods please remove this comment if it is!)

You need to own a legitimate copy of the game first of all. Copy it over and simply apply a c***k. Make sure that the game is also blocked from any internet connections using a firewall rule.

By having a legit copy you are supporting the game publisher. The c**k is used to make the game playable offline (so no R launcher, Epic Games or Steam checks).

It shouldn't be morally dubious since you own a legit copy anyways, and aren't distributing it.

To get back to my original statement, I meant stopping an update without the use of additional software. In the past there was a bypass launcher. There are also Steam emulators. I'm not interested in bypassing or using an emulator like the Goldberg one. My game is legal, blocked by a firewall to prevent GTAO ads, and has been at version 2372 for the last 2 years. Stable and 0 issues after updates.

I'm just curious, for the Steam version specifically, as to why it won't nag me every time I launch the game. As I wrote above there is likely a flag or similar mechanism on the Steam Server for my account which says the update is done - even after I revert. Apparently no such mechanism exists for the retail version. If we found the Steam solution we could possibly apply it to retail - ofc if it is a local rather than cloud based one.

As for your crack comment, that is absolutely terrible advice. I definitely have no intention whatsoever to install any potential virus or malware. Again, my game is never updated (well the root files are, not GTA5.exe) for more than the 10 seconds needed to revert it back.

One great benefit about reverting is that you don't need to update your mods. I still have my old SH5, my old gameconfig.xml mod etc. I don't need to update any "essential" mods except some very specific ones (SHVDN and LemonUI). And yes, all new peds, vehicles, and maps are working perfectly on my "outdated" system. I only use my own scripts and tools (with exceptions like the YMT editor).

Want to make something perfectly clear. I'm 100% against pirated games or cracks, but not just for legal or ethical reasons. The reason for my anti-piracy stance, is that a pirated game, or crack, or keygen, is a wonderful way to infect your PC and potentially your home network and even spread the virus to your family and friends and contacts. Infected means anything from deleting files, to ransomware, to identity theft.

I'm sure all the "PC experts" here are laughing thinking "He doesn't have an anti-virus, but I do". Well wrong. Your anti-virus will just protect you against yesterday's threats and definitely not against custom malware.

Just ask the people who had their disks wiped or compromised by QuantV - their AV didn't help much.

  • @JohnFromGWN That's a fair and reasonable stance.

  • @Xire keep in mind that a cracked GTA5.exe may cause issues even if it's malware free.

For example, I don't play GTAO but I do play SP on localhost FiveM servers. The FiveM client definitely checks for version and authenticity and would very likely reject a cracked executable.

I'm assuming SH5 and other mods might also find issue with a cracked game, but that's just speculation.

  • @JohnFromGWN @Xire Speaking from SP wise, I had to play with cracked for a while when I moved on to a new house that didn't have internet yet. and game wasn't allowing me to play offline so had no other choice there ..

The only mod I found wasn't properly working was timecycle + visualsettings reloader. Of course the pool of mods quite vast but looks like there are only a few selection of them doesn't work with cracked.

Not sure how fivem is though, neither gonna bother myself to play a bottlecapped game

Don't know what you mean by bottlecapped?
FiveM - used privately and in Open World (Not to be confused wiht FiveM SP) is great - incredible resources not available on SP and very fast load times. I only have one minor issue with it and that's the stupid watermark...and no, not paying to have it removed. Can be easily removed from videos by changing the video format but.....

  • @JohnFromGWN I meant can't load high textures, so peds/cars with high res textures need to be shrinken. Guess the correct term was bottleneck.

I don't know, fivem just feels too unnecessary for me. There is only so much you can do in one thing, which is why I pretty much left gta 5. I still have some thingies I wish to do but may never do... Not to mention about 300-400 GB harddrive it's wasting ..

  • @MissySnowie Hmm. I use Lara Croft, which doesn't get any better, from SP...my own conversion without any issues. I also use a high polygon, his res Ferrari LaFerrari...neither with any issues.
