Possibility of adding content on 5 mods and on fivem

  • Hi
I want to add my entire project on 5 mods. Only there is a problem! I don’t want fivem users to transfer my map to a :open_file_folder: stream folder and bypass the purchase on tibex. Because creating a stream folder is very easy. So my map would have to be readable to be in “Sing Player” but it would not be possible to convert it to a stream folder. And I don’t know how to do it!

  • @Gidoxy If you're talking about scripts then you can package as asi which is very hard to decompile - or obfuscate it.

If you're talking about MLOs you're SOL.

The GTA 5 dlc.rpf mod model is essentially the same as open source - even locked models can be unlocked.

Even if you could encrypt your dlc.rpf it would be impossible for OpenIV to load it or the game engine to display it.

Honestly, I would be shocked if this is even remotely possible.

Given the average FiveM thief is a moron, the best you can do is make it as difficult as possible by creating layers and layers of folders - which is ironically what bad mod creators do unintentionally. For example some peds are so badly written, using legs for the hair, torsos for the shoes, etc..that you give up quickly just trying to add drawables.

Prepare to be shocked then. :) What the OP suggest is not only quite possible, but is already happening on FiveM, widespread, using TEBEX. In short, TEBEX offers is a way to encrypt your assets (usually just ydr's), and unlock them, ingame, via a keysystem running on their remote servers. Many MLO's are used in this fashion on FiveM to date.

The same principle has also already been applied to Single Player, when the Ambitioneers released their first free version of the Miles High Club (which they later withdrew from 5mods).

I am not a TEBEX expert, but it's quite doable to create a free license key, for use in SP, and distrute your MLO that way (as it's demonstrably already been done). Short of advanced tools that try and catch raw DirectX data, to manually reconstruct meshes from then, TEBEX to date has not been broken yet, and would more than suffice for what the OP has in mind.

  • @meimeiriver I'm familiar with Tebex as I have 3 FiveM servers installed (all for single play, all local host).

I understand what you're saying, but GTA 5 SP is not a client server model so how did they use Tebex in SP? Isn't a server required for this process?

Isn't that how Tebex works, or is it just their models which are encrypted, but again is that possible without a server? Also, how would OpenIV load Tebex or 3rd party encrypted DLC? Neither R* nor OpenIV provide a mechanism for encryption keys other than the GTA5 license.

In passing my GTA 5 can't access anything because my firewall prevents it from doing so (no GTAO bullshit ads during load).

So if it is theoretically possible outside FiveM, obviously it hasn't caught on and hopefully it will die a slow and painful death.

If this practice was possible, I would think the whores would have figured it out quickly, but thank god they haven't, so they still need Patreon to beg and pray their wonderful mods aren't leaked.

Finally, my mindset, and this is my personal opinion ofc, is of a free internet. I have no respect, only disdain, for those in the gaming community who monetize assets, particularly when they themselves are exploiting R* resources or open source resources, whether code or 3d assets. In fact, I consider Quant the poster boy for this group.

  • @meimeiriver Also interesting, that R* with its technological resources, never figured out, or never cared, how to block Liberty City mods or any trilogy mods from being used in GTA 5 - this could easily be done with a patch.

That a very good question. I just pulled up my Cfx.re Keymaster page, and still see my license:

    Ambitioneers	Rags&Riches Light V2021.3.2.1	2021-12-25	2021-12-24

The mod uses .fxap files (for authentication, I presume), but not sure how SP connects to their servers exactly. I tried to contact the Ambitioneers team, but they're not very talkative. :)

    should've been .xfap, missed chance

  • @meimeiriver I'm curious about the mechanism so I downloaded the mod and did a dummy installation on a dummy GTA5 folder (GTA5.exe + Update.rpf and nothing else).

First thing I noticed, which sent up a red flag, is the mod uses CodeWalker.Core.dll - which is like trusting an OIV installer without inspecting assembly.xml nor its Contents folder. Who knows, other than the dlc.rpf's installed, what other mischief it did inside the mods folder. I'm not saying it did, just saying I would like to know what the mod is doing to my game.

The next thing I noticed is the zambition-athena.asi - another file which can't be decompiled, well not with my hacking skills or lack of. So I'm guessing the asi calls home to the mothership.

I never did the complete installation because I would never trust a mod like this, even before the QuantV debacle, but also because I'm not into this kind of game expansion.

My version of GTA 5 is purely Open World, free roam, sandbox. Love vehicles, love racetracks and maps. Hate missions and RP.

But back to the original point of this thread, you're right..it is actually here...but definitely not for me.
In fact I find this drm crap insulting, even disgusting. Sort of a FiveM whore invasion into SP.

Unlike some others here, I don't hate FiveM the server, but I dislike just about everything else about it. I have it because it loads super fast - great for testing purposes. I'm also very tempted, given the incredible racetracks we're getting this year from @ON3FLY3R to port forward my local server and invite a few friends to race. Would be first time I "RP".

Edit: for anyone reading this, please don't misinterpret my codewalker.dll comments. Just to clarify I mean that this library, which is intended only for good things and some excellent tools, can also be used (as can C# and scripts) for malicious purposes - because it can modify rpfs etc.

Let me make it abundantly clear, that I fully agree with you! TEBEX has all but killed modding. It's disgusting.
