Learn how to edit the wav file of engine

Hello friends, I'm new in the mod and I would try my hand in the mod sounds, because there really is not much in this respect. And what little there is is not well done.
I hope to do better if I can get you started. Not having found answers around, I open this thread to ask if you can change only the .wav sounds without touching other text files. If the answer is yes where do I start? Where do I find the engine sounds OpenIV?
