Game Crashing Without Warning Read This!!!

  • Well, had a different game crash today also without warning and looking in event viewer showed the cause was an application hang event id 1002, When I scrolled down a bit I saw another app hang error and this one was related to GTAV and this is the general details of it:

The program GTA5.exe version 1.0.2845.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.
    Process ID: f50
    Start Time: 01d95e0f737de3cf
    Termination Time: 4294967295
Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V\GTA5.exe
    Report Id: 1960c1ed-5a7c-4584-9351-594764d86fa1
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:
Hang type: Top level window is idle

    Hope this kinda helps

How can telling you where GTA5 is installed be helpful? As I've written before 90% of error messages are useless. If you're using the Microsoft event viewer that jumps to 99%.

Troubleshooting is 100% common sense, particularly when your game was already working.

    1. Start with asking yourself what was the last mod or script you installed, or file you edited, or software you changed. That is the most probable cause.
    2. Does your game run with dinput8.dll temporarily renamed? If answer is no, do a verify integrity.
    3. Read this and you'll never ask for help regarding how to identify what causes a crash or loading loop.

  • @JohnFromGWN As I stated I had a different game crash without warning or any error message so I decided to look in windows event viewer and it told me what the error was and what file was causing said error and when I scrolled down a bit I saw the error from GTAV about the app hang. All I'm doing is posting this here in case anyone else is having the game crash without warning's or errors and that windows event viewer might have something as to why the game crashed.

Yes I understand. 100% of crashes are without warning. That's what a crash is. Also the majority of crashes don't have error messages or they are cryptic or just plain wrong. Nothing remarkable here, nothing new. And yes, other people are experiencing crashes without warning. Software crashes, GTA5 vanilla crashes, GTA5 modded crashes regularly if you overdo it.

You wrote the event viewer (which btw is totally useless) told you what the error is.
So what exactly did it tell you? Top level window is idle?

How about Faulting package-relative application ID?

Process ID: f50??? The only F50 I know is the Ferrari F50 and it is available as a mod but that's not what MS is referring to.

How do those relate to GTA 5 mods? I'm asking because I don't know what they mean. I do however know how to troubleshoot issues and find out exactly where the problem is. Doesn't mean I can fix a broken mod, but I can definitely get my game back up and running in a matter of minutes.

I sent you a link with a process that works. I guess you didn't bother to look at it. I understand because it's not a quick fix nor a guaranteed fix like replacing dinput8.dll with one from system32.

When a game crashes, with or without out an error message, I never look at the event log. I never look at any log files. Why? Because I know my game crashed because of the last change I made to the game. This is true almost 100% of the time. Log files are only useful when first start installing mods or when you make the mistake of installing dozens of scripts, particularly asi mods, all at the same time. In that case it might be worthwhile to check the asiloader and SHVDN logs.

Stable games only crash after R* Updates or due to the last change/changes you made to your game or your PC.
