[Answered] Maintain page position when loading content from an earlier comment.

  • I don't know if this is possible on any website but I thought I might as well ask the question here.

It all comes from me trying to view a specific image on a page in the screenshot thread. Unfortunately, I had scrolled up too far and triggered the previous comment. So every time it loaded a new image in that comment, it scrolled me back up to the previous comment to show it. The result was a constant battle between me and the page scrolling and eventually, the page scrolling won and I left the page.

So the question is, is there any way for the page to maintain your position on the page, whilst loading content above your position?

  • @LeeC2202 Happens to me all the time, here. i don't know, if something could be done about it.

  • @LeeC2202 Yeah that's really annoying. Especially on the phone. It's honestly a pain in the ass if you want to see what people written.

  • @LeeC2202 change your device.😉

  • @TaylanOran I use a desktop PC, what device would you suggest?

  • @LeeC2202 lmao

  • @LeeC2202 i forgot to ask, have you tried every available browser e.g. Chrome, FireFox...?

  • @FoxtrotDelta what's funny?

  • @TaylanOran I do actually use Firefox, wouldn't have anything by Google on my PC.

But in all seriousness, I understand why this problem happens, it's because as the content appears, the page naturally gets longer and moves you back to a position on the page relative to the top. I don't even know if it is something that can be fixed, not without some backend coding that can try and keep track of how much the page has changed size by and then repositioning the view.

I know some sites limit the number of pictures per post, but I don't know if that's to limit this problem or not. It just drove me mad enough to post this question the other day. :)

  • @TaylanOran you suggesting to change the device, without knowing he uses a pc, and him asking you. what device would u recommend ? it was super funny!

  • @LeeC2202 I've personally never had any problems like this. It could possibly be a problem with the PC. Some devices have this problem while others can maintain a stable position. So your options are, Get a different PC or just use a tablet/phone. Although they could also possibly have the same issue. Lol

  • @TaylanOran @LeeC2202 i use chrome and get the same issue.

  • @TaylanOran But if I get a different PC, your mod might not work. ;) (if you don't remember that, I was the one testing your mod for you)

I have honestly never seen a site/device work any different to this, ever.

  • @LeeC2202 of course I remember you. Everyone on this site knows you too well. Oh by the way thanks again.

I don't know if I should be scared by that LOL :D

    And you're welcome...

  • @LeeC2202 😂😂 we watch your every move 😂😂haha take it as a creepy compliment 😂😂

It all comes from me trying to view a specific image on a page in the screenshot thread.

I know one thing that could cause that.
Even with good internet speed, my screenshots take some time to load. They're 4K and are usually over 15MB. :)
    Sorry.

  • @Akila_Reigns Do you upload them as png or bmp? If so, that might be why they are so big... if you use jpg at 100 quality, the image will look the same but will be much smaller. The images from my Nikon D90 are 4288x2848 and are usually only around 5MB - 6MB.

Don't apologise though, blame the internet for being so slow. :D

  • @LeeC2202 I use ShadowPlay to take screenshots, and yes, it saves the image in PNG format by default. I used Autodesk's Pixlr to resize them in the past, but now I'm too lazy to do it.
    I'll think about resizing, again.
And I know my internet is not the best, but 6-7Mb/s will do, for now. :)

  • Hey guys I'm new to this site, I'm curious if you can download any of these mods on Xbox one or 360? Any information helps. Thanks

  • @LeeC2202 Not everyone completely understand English. I'll admit, I didn't know what "moderator" means when I first signed up. That guy could be someone like me.
Of course I don't approve hijacking another one's thread.

  • As for the original request, I'm sorry but I don't think there's a whole lot I can do about that. The only way to fix it would be to specify the width and height of an image in the HTML but since these are remotely hosted images of all kinds of sizes, it's not possible to know that beforehand.

  • @rappo It's not a problem, I didn't think there would be a way to do it... I just got frustrated chasing the picture up and down the page so thought I'd ask. :D

I'm sure if there was a way, every site that has comments with pictures posted would be using it but I haven't seen a single site that does. But there's always a first time and you seem to have a good handle on web pages, so I thought I'd try my luck.

  • @Akila_Reigns Very true... although given the use of contractions, punctuation and choice of username, I sense a strong familiarity with English from them.

But anyway, I think I have the answer to my question so I will mark this as resolved and close the thread.
