Redux stops working after changing starfield

  • i've followed the guide above and all the files look to be in the right places.
Although the game doesn't load from the mods folder it keeps loading the game in vanilla.

    alt text

Also i don't think the logs work i tried loading up the game a couple of times.
    alt text

heres my mods folder with the redux i was trying out

  • @FreddyVon

    Redux:

When you say Redux, do you mean this? If so, read Requirements here & Troubleshooting here.
For example, pirated versions of the game are not supported by Redux (I know you have EG version, just using that as an example & for anyone else that might read this etc) & you need a working version of ScripthookV installed it says etc.
Read those links & see what applies to your game etc & see if there's anything you missed. As another example, I also didn't specifically see anything that says the latest Epic Games version of GTA V is supported with the latest Redux either, you'll want to confirm that too etc (I only glazed over the pages tho, so maybe it's in there somewhere).

    Additionally:
Redux is like a house of cards with every single card edited slightly. It is not very mod friendly at all. Installing it first before getting used to/confident with GTA V modding in general will make the whole process much harder than it has to be.

    'mods' Folder:

As for confirming whether your 'mods' folder works or not, do NOT (as mentioned) do that by installing Redux or any big sprawling mods first, as there are just too many variables involved with that. Instead, you want to start small & simple with a clean/empty 'mods' folder & a small edit to a file in your 'mods' folder to confirm it's working:

    You want to start small:

    • with a completely empty 'mods' folder
    • then in OpenIV, navigate to the vanilla 'update.rpf' here:

    ...\Grand Theft Auto V\update\update.rpf

    • Use the '[Copy to 'mods' folder]' button at the top to copy the vanilla 'update.rpf' into the correct location within your 'mods' folder (OpenIV will do it for you automatically once you hit the button).
    • Now, navigate to that 'mods' folder 'update.rpf', confirm it exists, create a backup of it (OpenIV > right-click 'update.rpf' > 'Show in Windows Explorer' to access the file directly) & then using OpenIV again, navigate to this location within it:

    ...\Grand Theft Auto V\mods\update\update.rpf\common\data\timecycle\w_extrasunny.xml

    • Open 'w_extrasunny.xml' within OpenIV using right-click > Edit & then at the very top of the file edit the value in the '<cycle name' line from 'EXTRASUNNY' to 'MATRIX':

    Example:

    From this:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <timecycle_keyframe_data version="1.000000">
    <cycle name="EXTRASUNNY" regions="2">
    	<region name="GLOBAL">

    to this:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <timecycle_keyframe_data version="1.000000">
    <cycle name="MATRIX" regions="2">
    	<region name="GLOBAL">

    • Save the file & then load up the game & if you get a black screen in Extra Sunny weather:

    ExSunny Black

    • & if in all other weathers/timecycles the ground is shiny like it rained, the streetlamp props are super white & blown out & the vehicles don't drive & spawn squint on the road (just turning their wheels from side to side while stationary), you know your 'mods' folder is working .

    Other (non-ExSunny) Weathers/Timecycles Example Pic:

    Other Weathers

Don't ask me how the @#$%&! I discovered that^. It only works if you rename it to 'MATRIX'. If you use any other word ExSunny will still be black, but only 'MATRIX' causes the weird behaviour/visuals in all the other weathers/timecycles .

    • Having confirmed your 'mods' folder is working as intended, you can then revert your edited 'mods' folder 'update.rpf' back to vanilla (using the backup you created earlier) & then proceeed to install other mods (sensibly, ie one at a time, checking the game after each install), so that you can be safe in the knowledge that if anything breaks it must have been the last mod you installed that did it.

    Skydome:

Back to your original skydome question. After you confirm your 'mods' folder is working & have reverted 'update.rpf' from backup, but before installing Redux or any other mods. Try your skydome edits again & see if they work, as that will be informative & point you in the direction of what might be causing your skydome issue/s if/when they reappear.

  • @a63nt-5m1th The thing is i just want to edit the skydome of the already existing redux i use but even that seems fucking impossible.
And i also have plenty of space alt text

I also cannot get it to load from the mods folder at all i've tried what u sent above but it obviously isn't gonna do anything since the mod folder doesn't work

  • @FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

i just want to edit the skydome of the already existing redux i use

You can get to that once you have your 'mods' folder functional . Your 'mods' folder issue is the highest priority problem, nevermind the fact that if you don't fix it first, you're forced to edit the vanilla files directly again, which can limit what mods you are able to install & have fully functional (some stuff just doesn't work 100% unless you use a 'mods' folder).

Also, I'm not saying you're not allowed to install Redux ever, just that installing it first, before confirming your 'mods' folder even works & before you familiarise yourself with GTA V modding enough to be able to fix the issues doing so will present, is asking for trouble.

  • @a63nt-5m1th Right right i get that. But i tried what u said above innit just having that update.rpf in there and it doesn't work still

(I should mention.... if i replace the files in GTAV Root folder the redux works flawlessly it just doesn't work in the mod folder lol)

  • @FreddyVon

    • Have you done a Check Disk & System File Scan like I mentioned back in post#26 yet? If not, do that now.
If Check Disk has to repair anything on your GTA V install drive, be sure to run another Epic Games verify integrity to make sure all your vanilla files are there/working etc & none were found to be corrupt &/or deleted etc.

    • What about using Regedit to check the Windows Registry for erroneous GTA V file path related issues? (look for any that are different to where you have GTA V installed now). I mentioned doing that in post#29.

    • Also, while you are still in RegEdit, navigate to this location & confirm the file path in the 'InstallFolder' value is correct for where you have GTA V installed?:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

    Note:
You can copy & paste that^ exact line into the field at the top of RegEdit & then hit Return or Enter & it will take you straight there, or if it doesn't exist, to the nearest registry key within RegEdit.

I can't account for the Epic Games version of GTA V being different, but that's^ usually where GTA V's registry data resides.
If not there, use the info in post#29 to hunt through the Windows Registry & examine all the paths you find etc.
I'll see if I can confirm whether the Epic Games's GTA V 'InstallFolder' value is in a different location. I don't think it will be, Steam/Rockstar versions both have it in the same place etc.

    Edit:
The Epic Games Store version of GTA V keeps it's registry 'InstallFolder' value in the same place as the others. Same as the path above etc. Let me know if it's there or not & if it is, check that it has the correct path to your current install within it.

    No Working 'mods' folder/log Issue:

Going by the info you have presented, your issue is not an ordinary one. No quick fixes/answers are likely possible (unless you missed something already mentioned). As mentioned, the only cause of the issues you are facing that I know of is if two versions of the game are installed (or paths to both exist within the Windows Registry).
Ultimately, unless you find something in the Registry, you're at the diagnostic stage where what you'll need to do is begin to introduce your own changes, but ones that you can account for/control, see what information they give you & then use that to determin your next step:

    Stuff like:

    • Try running some repairs of your Windows install using Tweaking.com's Windows Repair in Windows Safe Mode (there's a button to do that (see pic)), especially the 'Preset: Permissions Only' repair (just use Free version. Free downloads are in the '4.13.1 - For all versions of Windows (09/05/2022)'/second section of the page. MajorGeeks/Direct Download etc):

    Windows Repair

    • You could create a new user on your PC & reinstall the game in that Windows Account & see if you get the same issues (that will confirm or eliminate anything borked in your Windows User Account).
    • Test out the result on another PC if you can (delete GTA V install after or whatever, just confirm whether any 'mods' folder works there or not etc). Eliminate/Confirm your current install of Windows (or hardware) etc.
    • You've got lots of free space, so you could potentially use that space to create a partition & install a new copy of Windows without losing your current one. That, or buy a cheap 128GB>250GB hard drive & do it that way etc.

    Alternatives:

    • You could potentially go full nuke & format hard drive > Reinstall Windows > Reinstall game > add 'mods' folder etc, but that's probably better saved as a last resort.
    • You could go back to modding using the vanilla files, but my concern there is that it might well be that the very reason you can't mod the skydome is because you are modding vanilla files. I conducted tests modding vanilla files instead of 'mods' folder ones in the past as an experiment & it was sky & cloud related modded files that didn't work for me & what I suggested in my first post in this thread (placing the files in 'update.rpf' instead etc), should have worked if both methods (modding vanilla files or using 'mods' folder) worked identically, but it didn't.

  • @a63nt-5m1th ill try that out right now my man

The SFC found some corrupt files alt text

Also searched for GTA5.exe on regedit alt text
    alt text
    alt text
    alt text
These are just a few of the locations it takes me to pressing F3

And heres this one: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

  • @a63nt-5m1th said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

i did this yesterday and it's still fucked lolol

  • @FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

    i did this yesterday

Sorry, yeah, I noticed that re-reading the thread. So a completely new & fresh install of Windows yeah?

Might as well rule this out while you're in RegEdit:

    • In RegEdit, go to 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V' again.
    • On the right side (where the '(Default)' & 'InstallFolderEpic' are) right-click in empty space > New > string value > name it 'InstallFolder' > double-click on it & in the 'Value data' box enter:

    C:\Program Files\Epic Games\GTAV

    • & hit [OK]
    • Then try loading the game & see if anything different.

If that doesn't work, you could also try:

    • Renaming 'InstallFolderEpic' to 'InstallFolder' without creating a new string value.

Whatever the outcome of any of that^, let me know what happens for each of them etc. Thanks

  • @a63nt-5m1th said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

    C:\Program Files\Epic Games\GTAV

yeah completely formatted my pc installed everything from scratch.

I've tried both of your suggestion and still nothing sorry.

  • @FreddyVon
If you haven't already, put the Registry back the way you found it (remove any added strings/rename back etc)

    • Did you check to see if the logs were updated yeah?

    • Also, I presume you have extra sunny edited as before in your 'mods' folder & that is what you are using when you load the game to confirm the registry edits didn't work? Just want to know exactly what metric you are using to confirm results etc. ie What exact steps did you take to confirm etc

  • @a63nt-5m1th The logs got deleted after i verified my game files

and no the extra sunny stuff didn't work either

well i did what i was told above and it didn't load up as a black screen or any crazy lights or whatever idk.

  • @FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

well i did what i was told above and it didn't load up as a black screen or any crazy lights or whatever idk.

    • I just wanted to make sure you hadn't changed your 'mods' folder or were using a new metric etc

@FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

The logs got deleted after i verified my game files

    • Maybe Epic Games does it differently, but in my experience a verify integrity doesn't usually delete any non-vanilla files  (it just repairs vanilla ones etc, but I don't know how Epic Games does it tho).

    • What is in 'C:\RAGEMP\'? Show me a screenshot of all the files in there if you can

  • @a63nt-5m1th maybe i should just get the game on steam see if that makes a difference lol alt text

  • @FreddyVon
Try uninstalling RageMP if you can, That or move or zip up the 'C:\RAGEMP' folder & it's contents/Remove it as a variable somehow etc. Then test game/logs etc

  • @a63nt-5m1th what and just load up gta online?

  • @FreddyVon
No, God no, not that , just get it out of the way temporarily while you diagnose this 'mods' folder/no logs issue

The fact that there is another GTA5.exe & at least one '.dll' loader in there is a variable I can't account for. Essentially, those files being there is very similar to there being another install of GTAV present on your PC, the exact issue I mentioned that I know for sure causes the very issue you are facing (no logs, '.dll's & '.asi's don't work etc).
It's close enough anyway, that I'd say it's worth removing temporarily just to check etc

  • @a63nt-5m1th ill remove it ;) what'd you reckon then i do after removing it? just load up GTA Online at that point?

EDIT: After i removed Rage the folder was still there and in that folder i found this alt text

I removed the folder completely now and tried opening up gta online and i couldn't but NOW THE LOGS ARE THERE! (the game is instantly crashing when i try to open it tho) BUT IT WORKS i think :D
    alt text

  • @FreddyVon
No going online while modding, that is bad & you will be arrested lol (but seriously, no, just no).
Why not load up Singleplayer? You know, what the 'mods' folder was designed for etc.

@FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

NOW THE LOGS ARE THERE! (

    Good there's some progress

Try Singleplayer this time & see if new logs are created/updated & if so, read them/post them/pic etc. Even if Black ExSunny etc doesn't work. See if there are any lines with '{M}' at the end of them in 'OpenIV.log' for example?

  • @a63nt-5m1th i Should probably have clarified that i usually just open the game and go into Online from singleplayer.
the game crashes instatly before it even opens but i also have those old redux files in the mods folder maybe that's why?

  • I can get into the storyline now after removing all the mods from the mods folder and just doing the "update.rpf" "Matrix" thing but it's really weird the lights and all that seem normal but when i press left alt a grotti tourismo R spawns on my lmfaooooo
Oh and when i shoot the cop cars they fly away like crazy

  • @a63nt-5m1th said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

you want to start small & simple with a clean/empty 'mods' folder

@FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

but i also have those old redux files in the mods folder maybe that's why?

I am disappointed in you. You have let your entire species down today :pensive: lol

Future reference, if you make changes to anything we're testing or don't follow any suggestions fully, do let me know etc, otherwise it's like this:

    MerryGoRound

@FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

but when i press left alt a grotti tourismo R spawns on my lmfaooooo

That's Simple Trainer's hotkeys (LAlt+A spawns a TurismoR). I'm sure if you hunt about in the menu of Simple Trainer & any other trainers you have installed, you'll find the setting that controls cars/cop cars flying away when shot as well .

@FreddyVon said in Redux stops working after changing starfield:

I can get into the storyline now after removing all the mods from the mods folder and just doing the "update.rpf" "Matrix" thing

Sounds positive, at some point try a clean, like totally 100% clean/empty 'mods' folder:

    • Only add a 100% vanilla 'update.rpf' into it (in the correct location obvs).
    • Test load the game with that 100% vanilla 'update.rpf' in the 'mods' folder at this point
    • Check the 'OpenIV.log' & see if you still get lines with an {M} at the end

    If so:

    • Make some small edit/s to one of the files in that 'mods' folder 'update.rpf'
    • See if the changes are displayed in-game

Something like edit 'visualsettings.dat' & make the '# emissive bits' section look like this:

    # emissive bits
    car.headlight.day.emissive.on	0.0
    car.headlight.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.headlight.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.headlight.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.taillight.day.emissive.on	0.0
    car.taillight.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.taillight.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.taillight.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.indicator.day.emissive.on	0.0
    car.indicator.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.indicator.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.indicator.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.reversinglight.day.emissive.on	0.0
    car.reversinglight.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.reversinglight.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.reversinglight.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.defaultlight.day.emissive.on	0.0
    car.defaultlight.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.defaultlight.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.defaultlight.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.brakelight.day.emissive.on	0.0
    car.brakelight.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.brakelight.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.brakelight.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.middlebrakelight.day.emissive.on	0.0
    car.middlebrakelight.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.middlebrakelight.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.middlebrakelight.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.extralight.day.emissive.on 0.0
    car.extralight.night.emissive.on	0.0
    car.extralight.day.emissive.off	0.0
    car.extralight.night.emissive.off	0.0
    car.emissiveMultiplier 0.0

That will turn off all the lights on all the vehicles. You'll still see light shining out of them & onto the landscape when the lights are on, but the glass light fittings that are on the actual vehicles will be off.

    Like this:

    No Lights 01

    No Lights 02

Ill be trying whatever u got up here tho^

  • did the thing you suggested but i still see light.
alt text alt text alt text alt text
The log is making logs tho ^

Maybe this is what i should look for in the "log"?
    alt text

  • @FreddyVon
The '{M}'s at the end of the lines in your last pic means those files are being loaded from your 'mods' folder.
Also, Trainers appear to be working or you wouldn't be able to spawn a TurismoR on your head.

What '.log' files exactly are produced? Obviously 'OpenIV.log' is, but what about 'asiloader.log'? Show me what it says inside 'asiloader.log'.

Also, as a test, try this:

    • Make sure again that your vanilla files are 100% vanilla (& don't mess with/edit/change them at all, at least until you have fixed the 'mods' folder issue).

    Note:
If you have messed with them since reinstalling, physically delete your vanilla 'update.rpf' & 'common.rpf' & re-run a Epic Games verify integrity to download 100% fresh ones before proceeding.

    • Next, delete your 'mods' folder from the GTA V root folder (that or rename 'mods' to something else like 'mods - [RENAMED]' etc).
    • So at this point there is no 'mods' folder present/installed. None, nada, zero, all gone bye bye etc (ie Your install should look almost completely vanilla, with the only non-vanilla files in your entire GTA V install being any Trainers & OpenIV plugins you have installed. Nothing else).
    • Download this 'Mods Folder Test.oiv'.
    • Install it. Just double-click the '.oiv' to start it & OpenIV will open automatically (if it's not open already) > Once the oiv window appears > Hit the '[Install]' button (top right) > & be sure to select "mods" folder as the install location on the next page (ie don't install to the game folder) .
    • After the install suceeds, a 'mods' folder will have been created in the correct location & inside the 'update' within it, you will find a modded 'update.rpf'.
    • Don't touch it, just load the game after the install succeeds & tell me what you see/post a screenshot (if it works it will be impossible to miss).

Then report back. I want to know:

    • If 'asiloader.log' is being created/updated each launch of the game & show me what it contains whether it's being updated or not.
    • If installing the 'Mods Folder Test.oiv' to a non-existing (ie deleted/removed/renamed etc) 'mods' folder results in any (immediately obvious) change in-game.
