Tank shell ricochet Discovery By youtuber named Nought.
-
Here is a video , of Tank shells ricochet which i have been trying to achieve for past 1 month. this youtuber named Nought Discovered it by accident. its super cool. now i/we just need to study this behavior of shell and glass. i suspect normals to be playing some role in this 180 degree bounce back.. watch the video for results/discovery
.
Note: Skip to 07:14 on video timeline if you want to get to good part quicker. if you like the Video, which i really do, please subscribe to his channel too. he is really close to 1 million subscribers.

@FoxtrotDelta Missile Proof glasses. LOL.
In other words, expect tank shells ricochet feature pretty soon!
-
well that's interesting
GTA:AW

Ooo cool, are you planning to maybe cover or coat tanks with this type of material?
-
@FoxtrotDelta Do you really think normals could maybe do this? Aren't normals a texture only thing?
We should try to get this glass object which is used in the video and inspect stuff like polygon IDs, materials and User Defined Options.
-
@FoxtrotDelta I love NoughtPointFour hes an awesome youtuber!!
-
@Oskar yea vertice id' too. material interactions might be responsible too. i mean't the direction of ricochet is according to normals. i think. not sure yet.
-
@FoxtrotDelta He follows me on twitter
-
@NotCrunchyTaco that's a good thing, i quoted and pasted his link here, as he was the one who discovered the ricochet behaviour of the glass. i don't want to take credit for something, i didn't do that's all
-
@FoxtrotDelta Yeah I sent him a screenshot of this thread! He discovered something new about the physics engine in the game! I wonder if this could be used for something else and this also works because rpgs ricochet off the glass too
-
@NotCrunchyTaco one , can apply glass material on top of the tank, sharp angle places like the turret and ERA armor plates. which are angled . and the shells boucning off, for 1 or two hits, makes it realistic.
-
@FoxtrotDelta But where the shells go is unpredictable unless there is a way to predict a projectiles/entities trajectory
-
@NotCrunchyTaco i think where the normals are facing, the shells go in that direction. normals can be changed if that's the case. atleast the tank shells behave this way. RPG kinda, acts like refracted angle. i need to do some research into it.
-
@FoxtrotDelta You should do research and experimenting with this you can make really cool things because I know you have made a lot of jets and tanks
-
@NotCrunchyTaco that's the plan.
-
@FoxtrotDelta That's awesome
-
this is awesome got to try it!

@FoxtrotDelta nought saw the forum post
