Trailers for Boats & Working Weapons

  • Since i don't have much time for modding these days, i had an idea, i wanted to share here, so that you guys, community members who have time and interest should try it out. it can be an amazing idea, if it works. so here goes:

    Idea: so the idea is, Since Trailers can Have Weapons and Lights working on them, so i think, if we make a trailer for the boats with weapons on top , turrets etc. and attach that trailer on to the boat, may be, just may be, the boats would be able to fire those weapons, as the weapon settings are really being used, from handling.meta and vehicles.meta of the trailer. and that we we might be able to get the Weapons to Work on a normal Boat. waiting for your replies. and Test Results. i am hopeful. if other's can't achieve it i shall try it after 3 or 4 weeks time. i am currently busy with my Job.

    let me know, if you think its not workable. or if it is workable :slight_smile: Thanks in Advance.

    That would only work if there is a way for static boat trailers. Normal trailers wouldn't stay in the correct place once the main vehicle starts moving.
    And if you're talking about the native attaching function. We tried that some months ago on the James. We splitted her into two vehicles. The boat and the weapons. We made the weapon vehicle a normal car so that it's able to use it's weapons. But once I attached it to the main vehicle (James) it couldn't perform any movement(door movement, weapon movement, etc.) anymore.

  • @Oskar i know what you did with james. i tested it along with you guys. thats different . we all know scripts can be limiting. thats a different approach. this is totally different than that.

    anyways i think i could not convey my idea in clear enough words. have you seen how turrets behave on top of a trailer? the trailer can be completely static on top of the boat.

  • @FoxtrotDelta I don't get it :) How can we achieve static trailers? Aren't they always moving to the left or to the right once the main vehicle turns?

  • @Oskar thats because they have wheels and suspension settings. this one would just have straight turret pole into the main vehicle's chasis col. hence limiting the movement. there are two ways i know how to limit the movement. in zm3 dumies user defined options plus collision mechanism. 2ndly handling.meta file.

  • @Oskar limiting movement of objects is very easy. just put two walls of col on each side.

  • @Oskar not on a boat. but i did it with truck/semi. i am not sure if boats can attach trailers with them. if i had time. i would have had done it myself and later shared a video . as i always do. but im out of time for 2-3 weeks

  • @FoxtrotDelta You need a special dummy to attach trailers, right? I guess we should just put such a dummy on a boat and try to attach it.

  • @Oskar yes. dummies have to be on both boat & the trailer. and then both boat and trailer meta files need the name of eachother listed. dummies are. attach_female & attach_male

  • @FoxtrotDelta For a quick little test we should just use an existing trailer and place the dummy on a boat and then edit the vehicle.meta files.

  • @Oskar yes. but the height of both dummies should be equal.

  • @Oskar if i findout something i'll post here. i think the weapons have to be turret weapons with individual seat 2 so that the turret can be manned manually. i have not seen any weapons controlable from drivers seat on a trailer so far.

    they all have to be entered . turrets i mean.

  • @FoxtrotDelta Well before we go to the weapons we should test if boats work with trailers.

  • @Oskar it was reported back in the end of october i hope there is some truth in it. especially those lines, cuz that's what we need right now

    some important lines from the article ! these are my fav, lines so far.

    "There's going to be an amphibious Blazer, with dual machine guns attached. Drive from land to sea, all you like, seamlessly.

    there'll be an amphibious Technical as well, turret and all. Not much to say about this one. Its got big barrels on each side that help it float."

  • @FoxtrotDelta So you saying on top, if trailer has turret and you enter vehicle pulling it, it's operable by driver? If so there might not gonna be same connection in between boat and trailer like it works in between truck and trailer, even you put hitch dummy. Then if R* will make some new amphibious vehicles, that might gonna make it happen.
