GTA 5 crashing on bootup.
-
So, the new GTA 5 patch comes out. I'm excited because I have more cool vehicles to cruise 'n' crash. I install the update. Next thing you know, my GTA 5 stops working. It's weird, because before the update, it was modded before, and it wouldn't crash upon bootup.
Can anybody solve this issue? Let me know if you need logs.

Hello sir, I fear this is wrong place to post, you should put this in the "Mod Installation Help & Troubleshooting" forum so that people can see it and possibly assist you.
Best wishes to you.

I'm not installing mods...
-
@krashadam you are requiring trouble shooting? Anyway, do what you will... I just think you will have more traffic on your post and therefor more potential for assistance if you put it there...
Again, best wishes.

Moving this to the troubleshooting section for you, you'll probably get more replies in there.
-
@krashadam just do an integrity test. from steam or social club . and your game shall be fixed. make sure to make a backup of your mods folder. that way. after the game has been fixed, you can move you mods back into your updated game.
-
@FoxtrotDelta I don't think Social Club even has the ability to integrity test...
-
@krashadam it has. you can do it manually by following these following steps.
1 First, go where you have installed the gtav.exe my is in E:\Programmi\GTAVLauncher.exe
2 Now create a shortcut of gtavlauncher.exe, right click and hit proprieties, now you have to add -verify after your directory here an example
E:\Programmi\GTAVLauncher.exe -verify
apply and save
3 Done, hit the shortcut and the verify will start!
Hope this helps !or this link below can be helpful as well

To help verify what I'm looking at, I have 3 files (Presumably by Rockstar) called GTA5.exe, PlayGTA5.exe, and GTAVLauncher.exe. Do you mean specifically GTAVLauncher.exe?
EDIT: I had done a repair through Rockstar's built-in Uninstall/Repair GTA 5 window yesterday. That didn't do shit. (It's not like it actually does anyway.)
EDIT 2: Just made a shortcut, added the -verify line in the target box
-
UPDATE: In the process of verifying the game files. If it doesn't work, I'll post a log alongside my next comment.
EDIT: Damn thing crashed somehow. Is it truly dead?

@krashadam when you say you installed the update. how did you actually install the update?
-
@FoxtrotDelta What? What update? I didn't install anything...?
If you mean the game update, I installed it like everyone else, launched GTA 5, got an update, I let Social Club download the update, Social Club then installs it, then I launch my game, only for it to go kapoot.
-
Well, my problem's not getting solved anytime soon... and I have no where else to find good advice, so, another job well done.
-
@krashadam your game should not crash. if it updated. its very strange. your launcher has the Problem. can yo try and get the original update downloaded from rockstar website? update 1.0944.2 it will give you the launcher along with it. you can extract that launcher into the game. and it might fix the problem. you can replace both laucnher and the gta 5 exe itself.
-
@krashadam Here's what I would recommend
- Make a backup of all your data from your My Documents\Rockstar Games folder, so that's your saved games etc...
- Rename your GTAV folder to something else, if you are concerned about this step, make a copy of the folder before you rename it.
- Uninstall GTAV from your add/remove programmes
- Delete the My Documents\Rockstar Games folder
- Get the GTAV Setup tool from https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/activate
- Rename your GTAV folder back to the proper name
- Run the setup tool and point it at your existing GTAV folder and run the game once
- Copy your saved games and profile data back into the newly created My Documents\Rockstar Games folder
I had to do that with a corrupted launcher and those steps fixed it. I can't guarantee it will fix yours but as it was a solution I have tried, I thought it was worth sharing.
-
@LeeC2202 comprehensive. High chances of working if one follows these steps carefully.
-
@LeeC2202 Oh fuck, that's gonna be a headache... But, I'll do it with slow progression.
@FoxtrotDelta So, download the thing from Rockstar's site, and replace them with the launchers I have in my current GTA 5 directory?
-
Take out your mods folder, See if it loads up. My mods were still there but I needed an updated gameconfig, edit the dlclist and extratitleupdate. Mine is still a little unstable but not from the cars.
-
@GetTheClicker I always remove my mods before updating. I know that during the update it likes to fuck with my mods, half of the files go corrupt if I leave them here. Trainers don't die or nothing. They can't make them find the .asis, but they can certainly put a stop to them.
I also thought about updating the 3 files you mentioned. I'll give that a go, if it works your comment will get an upvote (to confirm it's a working answer for those with similar issues.)
@FoxtrotDelta @LeeC2202 I forgot to mention, I think I remember trying to use DS3 Tool (Motioninjoy) so I can play GTA 5 with an old PS2/PS3 racing wheel. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

After Cockstar Update, went to Cockstar and spent a week screwing with them. Stock answers always. Went
to this site on Youtube and followed his instructions. Took a while to rerun update but did it. Then went to OPEN IV
and updated the mod installer for the "UPDate" and game started working again...no crash. I don't know if I could
have just updated the UpDate in OPEN IV and got same results, but after a week with Cockstar I was at my wits
end. Everytime those bastards put out an UPdate...I go through this. And the way to fix it keeps changing....!!!

"Cock"star doesn't like modders, that's why they kill scripthookv and scripthookdotnet every time they update.
And if you actually emailed/called Rockstar to complain about mods not working, you've essentially given them a trophy, letting them know that they successfully fucked the modding community once again.
If your game's mods aren't working, the first thing you don't do is complain to Rockstar. They don't give a rat's ass about modders.
I didn't watch that video that GTAMan put up yet because I have already resolved my issue. @FoxtrotDelta @LeeC2202 @DarthPungz @GetTheClicker
I just deleted all my mods. Obviously in the group of the 1000s of mods I downloaded, I snagged onto a nasty motherfucker or something. (All of my mods seemed dead, so I thought 'fuck it' and deleted them all, because my game wouldn't load with them all.)
All of your comments on this thread have been upvoted, to at least show you guys tried to help. Thanks for trying to help anyway, guys!
