Unable to open and edit "extratitleupdatedata.meta" file.

  • I am unable to extract the "extratitleupdatedata.meta" file from open iv and have so that i am able to edit it in notepad despite being in edit mode, when I drag and drop it onto desktop, it copies as a META file which I am unable to open, from the videos I have seen you should be able to drag and drop it on to desktop and open it straight up with notepad, I have noticed that in the attributes column the file remains as "compressed, encrypted" all the time, anyone have any ideas as to how to access this?

  • @adnad99 You don't need to edit the extratitleupdatedata.meta file to install add-on vehicles/weapons/peds.
A lot of mods tell you to add lines to it but it's not necessary.

    But if you insist,

After extracting the file to desktop or a folder, it can be edited by any text editor.

  • oh ok thanks, I'll give it a try now!

  • @adnad99
    NP.
Just remember, it's absolutely unnecessary to edit that meta file. Editing dlclist.xml is enough.

  • Hi,
Can someone please send me their extratitleupdate.meta file as i have tried editing it but now my whole game doesnt start up. please help me. thanks

  • @Russul2003

It's prohibited to share original content in the Forum, you can ask someone to share it on a file hosting site, like Mediafire, or ask someone to send it to your e-mail.

It's much easier to verify your game files, and the game will download the original files back.

Remember to use the mods folder to prevent this in the future.

And keep in mind that no matter what people say, it's unnecessary to edit the extratitleupdatedata.meta. Editing dlclist.xml is enough.

  • @Akila_Reigns Thanks a lot bro. But i decided to redownload the game. It's gonna take ages but didnt really have a choice. Thank you for you info though

  • @Russul2003 That's not what I meant. I told you to verify game files, not to re download the whole thing.

  • @Akila_Reigns
I have edited the dlclist.xml but I did not edit the extratitleupdatedata.meta. The car will not spawn, can you please help.

  • @Planbsk8er9 Have you tried a different gameconfig.xml?

    And Happy New Year!

  • I have figured out how to fix the problem! First you have to open the notepad app, next you add the extratitleupdate.meta into your files, then you click file while in notepad and select the extratitleupdate.meta. It should let you edit it. Hoped this helped and let me know if you need me to explain it better.

@Planbsk8er9 extratitleupdatedata.meta file SHOUDLN'T BE EDITED, it's innecessary for mods, just don't do it.

  • @Reyser I have tried to do it without editing the extratitleupdatedata.meta file but the car wont spawn in. If I do edit it the mod works fine.

  • MODERATOR

@Planbsk8er9 The car you added to the game came with files to put into update/update.rpf/dlc_patch/ path? If yes, that will be the reason, but these files should be into the Add-On files.
