Privacy settings, don't seem to work.

I was just wondering if the settings in the image I have shown actually work or not?
I don't actually follow anyone but I still get chat messages and every now and again, I would like to activate this setting, especially when I am in a critical piece of coding.

@LeeC2202 Not sure about that, as it's a NodeBB core feature. Are people creating new chats with you, or just responding to ones they've already created? Maybe it's just for creating new ones...

@rappo That's a very good point... I hadn't thought about that. Existing chats probably bypass that as they have already been created...
Sorry, head full of XML causing me to lose my mind I think, I seem to be missing the obvious lately.
