Porsche 918 woes!

  • MODERATOR

Has anyone been able to install this car properly?

    Porsche 918

Probably one of the prettiest mods ever made, but sadly it keeps crashing my game. Specifically when I store it inside a garage (SinglePlayerApartment style), and then leave the garage again: boom, 'Out of memory' crash! Not on loading the game, to be clear.

I even tried the 0.5 traffic, 0.5 peds gameconfig (to presumably lower resources a bit), but that made no difference.

So, if anyone successfully imported this, what's the magic incarnation?! :)

  • @meimeiriver The magic is to have a good PC. But maybe those mods just conflict. They were updated last a while ago and not fully optimised to work properly.

  • @meimeiriver One of my most used cars probably, seemed to install with no problems. I don't use that apartment mod though, used to cause me far too many problems. It could be more the SPA mod than that car.

Edit: That being said, it is another of those vehicle mods with terrible texture sizing... there's no need for some of the textures to be as big as they are, so it is going to be a resource hog... especially with its 4000,000 polygons.

Yes, I will try this out on the one garage I think I still have which is not Single-Player-Apartment-ed (at Vinewood, iirc). Cuz damn, I really want this car! :) Can't believe how good it is!

My PC is just fine! :) (64G RAM, iy 6700K, and GTX 980X). And, like I said, I don't think it's really the resources, because the 0.5 traffic, 0.5 peds gameconfig should have cut resources considerably (enough at least for the 1 extra DLC). So, yeah, could well be the SPA mod. Hmm..

  • @meimeiriver Oh yeah that should be enough! But 64 gigs of ram? I don't think you're just gaming on this right? :D

P.S. The thing is, all SPA really does, is store it as a xml .cfg file. But the combination of pulling up all cars (for viewing, when entering the garage) and that Porshe 918 could trip the memory over).

  • MODERATOR

Yep. I'd stay away from SPA. Oh, wait, I did.

I do lotsa video rendering. :) That often requires heaps of memory.

Also, seems GTA V is rather terse when it comes to error logging. Would be nice if they told you what specifically went wrong where, when and why. :)

  • @meimeiriver Ah ok :)

I really hope it would do that so to figure out what's wrong.. Guess you can't have everything.

Why?! For one, I have dozens of cars! The game itself just offers you like 2 garages to store your stuffz in (crazy, really). I know several of the trainers offer ways to save your cars, but where's the fun in that?! :) I want the immersive experience!

    I want the immersive experience!

LOL, when I used that mod, I used to find items disappearing from parts of the map. Now whilst I live in a bad area of the UK, where burglary is rife, I prefer it if my game objects don't go missing. :D

  • MODERATOR

Me too, but I've read way to much stories about SPA creating errors :/
On the other hand, I hardly am ingame long enough on weekdays to feel immersed. Never grow up!

Actually, I think there's a mod for that. :) Can't recall the name just now, but since SPA loads Online maps, disappearing of props inside the protagonists' homes is apparently a known issue with using Online maps in general.

So, dumb question probably, but what are you guys using for car storage space then instead?!

  • @meimeiriver If I really want to save a vehicle I just do it with Menyoo.

  • @meimeiriver Storage space? For the past 8 months while I have been modding this game, I have been Trevor in the desert. I only drive his truck and haven't even used the car I have in his garage. I don't have anything to store or time to play with anything I could store. :D

I think I actually used to play this game at some point. That could be a brain mod I have installed though. :D

  • MODERATOR

There's no dumb questions. Only foolish answers.

I don't use one yet. Far too tricky with those add-on car packs I have going on.

And maybe I'm too set in my ways?
In good old IV when you have a saved car and wanted to start a new game the game would crash.

So I usually just spawn, color scheme, select a livery, tune, drive and screen the car I feel like.

  • MODERATOR

@ReNNie Amazing! Part of the fun for me (cuz, let's face it, there's pretty much nothing to do in SP when you finished the game), is to pimp out cars and store them. :) To each his own, I guess.

Thanks. Going to load it now again, and see whether Menyoo won't crash on it. :)

  • @meimeiriver 2 storey building downtown, a sackful of Molotovs and passing convertibles = hours of fun. :D

I must confess, any additional pleasure I get from the game is gained by the sadistic torture and fear inducement I take part in. Sniper rifle + fire ammo, also great fun. :imp:

I used to stick god mode on and could spend 3 or 4 hours just taking out anything that moved, especially with weapons that made them scream. As long as it was human mind you... animals are off-limits.

LOL. That's pure gold, right there! :)

  • @meimeiriver I had to fail and skip the hunting deer missions. :(

if someone could mod those missions to be humans, I'd have them hung outside my trailer, as trophies in an flash. :D

  • MODERATOR

Okay, after having driven the car for several hours now, I'm pretty convinced it's the SPA mod now. And I was able to store the car inside the Vinewood garage just fine (and in Menyoo).

  • MODERATOR

is the time to say, told you so? is it? :innocent:
