How To edit textures and skins (ped, player, props, weapons, etc.)

  • I'd like to edit lots of different things in GTA V mainly peds and their attire. But I have absolutely no idea where to start and can't find a decent tutorial to point me in the right direction. Like what software do I need to use? What are the basics so I don't upload files that crash peoples games? I'm ready to learn so tell me what you know any help is appreciated.

  • Of course there's no tutorial for this ... this community is actually so shit.

  • @House-Rushton u right how hard is it to copy an paste a link? ive found out some since then but best i could do right now honestly is edit a tshirt an theres too many of those crowding up the site

  • @kinghippo2000 the worst part is that it isn't even hard - you just have to know what to do. But how do you learn something that isn't being taught? I'm not fuckin Galileo or whoever the fuck.
I'm gonna try and reverse engineer a pedmod - if I figure it out I'll tell you how to do it.
Hilarious that my comment got 2 down votes lol fags.

  • @House-Rushton Haa its true too these clowns go around ratin down talking shit when someones clearly trying to be an artist but lose their shit over this damn designer clothing trend. (Im sure you've noticed the player section recently) So what exactly do you got goin on with this reverse engineering a ped? Cause body type is something I immediately took note of back on last gen consoles playing GTA. Off the bat limited MP customization(everybody looked same an walked same) everyones shaped exactly the same and that still remains. Too I noticed in the gangs they have dozens of clothing varieties but the only difference will be one looks a few years younger. No fresh out of bolingbroke pen members. A ped replacement/retexture I want to see is the prisonmuscular ped or babyd/beach bodybuilders hell even some of the fat civilian peds incorporated into each of the gangs/police. It might make no difference to others but i like the brawling in gta 5(when heavily modded) an have alot of fun with menyoo spooner scenarios and sometimes even build a mission. So hit me up with any progress man i got ur mod page followed now look forward to seein it

  • Umm... you extract the texture from the ytd, edit it using any image editing program and put it back in..

  • Could you add textures instead of replacing them? I'd like to add more colors to my freemode characters clothes.

  • @tonynguyen you can just recolor the textures but if you add duplicates of the same texture they wont be read.

  • @AHK1221 I would love to upvote ur super helpful comment cause i know exactly how to do all that an thats why i created this thread cause im an experienced modder. Real glad u swooped into my rescue an told me something i know how to already with ur "Umm......." bullshit in there. U should start a youtube channel with condescending tutorials where you speak to the viewers like they should already know how to everything and then not teach them anything just show a picture of the mod page an read the description monetize that you'll be so rich you can afford everything R* will probly hire you an the Houser brothers will quit an youll get the whole company to make your dream GTA but you wont tell them what it is cause they should Umm...... already know so thanks bro with everything you taught me by day's end i should be the best modder in history and everyone will love me but ill owe it all to you ur the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can definitely add textures, although I suspect there might be a limit, not sure if it's dictated by the letter required for the sequential naming. See the rest of this comment to see how it works.

Compare your a_f_y_business_01 ped, to this.

    0_1494683380046_extra_texture.jpg

All it requires is a simple ymt edit and a new texture with the correct sequential name, no model changes of any kind are required.

Edit: I should add, this was merely a quick 2 minute example of how this works... I don't actually have this in the game on a permanent basis. But I do have the Vagos female with a completely new set of textures that was also added with no model changes required. That gets you new diffuse maps, new normal maps and new spec maps if required.

  • @LeeC2202 thank you for aiding in the learning process i appreciate that you took the time to explain you could have just read out the steps like were supposed to know already but if we did we wouldn't be asking "How To".

  • @kinghippo2000 I don't know what's the problem with you. Can't you open OpenIV, go to the ped/prop/weapon you want to edit and extract the texture from the .ytd file, do your changes and put it back. Is it really so hard to use your common sense for once? You attack everyone who tried to help you.

  • @AHK1221 what i just said to him was sincere clearly because look what he did showed "How To" do something u on the other hand come rollin in on my thread like ur goddamn jedijosh ffs who even knows u.... and dont claim @Willief23 cause we all know u fake cried when u begged him to downvote my post so out of sympathy for u he did. but not too many posts ago he contributed to the learning process and bonus points->->-> wasn't a passive aggressive dick about it

  • @kinghippo2000

"you could have just read out the steps like were supposed to know already but if we did we wouldn't be asking "How To"
That sounds like you're attacking someone. Maybe I'm just dumb but it really does.

Also, lmao no I did not ask @Willief23 to downvote your post, maybe @rappo can prove that xd

Let's start over; what is it that you found so confusing that you forget to mention in the OP? That you made this thread for.

  • @AHK1221 ...hhmm... weird how you left out the first part of the sentence where i told him "i appreciate that you took the time to explain"... hmm.... awful convienient .. but wait... "Maybe I'm just dumb".... yup, definitely smartest thing u done said all day. But ur a good boy, ran straight to daddy rappo so he could intervene for u since everybody on 5mods found out u forced tears to get me down voted. ok now read slowly so u comprehend this its clear as day to anybody whos ever looked at this thread that i have no idea what i'm doing and im looking for "step-by-step" instructions or a term thats probably more relatable to you would be a "for dummies" type of tutorial.

  • @kinghippo2000 I would like to help you but unfortunately i cant be on my pc unyil next Monday. BUT, I'll still try to explain the basics.

I'll explain it for the peds right now.
There are two types of peds, that you nedd to understand:

Normal Peds: These have 4 files; .ytd, .yft, .ymt, and .ydd
Streamed Peds: These have 3 files and 1 folder.

I wont be focusing on streamed peds right now, but they're mostly the same since in both peds you edit the ytd file.

If you scroll down in the Tutorials section, you'll see my GIMS Evo tutorial; you don't need to know what that is. However, in that tutorial I show how you can access the 4 files I've mentioned above. You only need to follow it till that part.

Then you press Edit Mode in OpenIV and right click the .ytd file and press "Edit".

Then a window will show up, simply select the texture you want to edit and press "Export Selected".

From that point on, you edit the texture and then import it back in by pressing the "Import" button.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please ask in the General Modding section as this section is for posting tutorials.

Btw, i didnt ask @Willief23 to downvote your post. You need to learn to be patient. I would've given you a tutorial WITH PICTURES but just because you said that, I'm rethinking that decision..

  • @AHK1221 Thanks for that. And I get it my bad I know yall aint in cahoots i was just bein a smart ass it jus gets old when im expected to know how when there is no hand-holding for gta modding lol. Since i created this thread ive been more vigilant about finding out on my own with help or not it's nobodys job to teach me how but i do want to learn. I know my ideas would get great reception i can visualize the end result im just a little slower than i should be cause i been hit in the head a lot an i get frustrated so i apologize sorry i said you fake cried and that rappo was ur father i just thought u were trying to make me look stupid for asking how. u see i hate seeing some of these uploads i see on site no good they dont even try just to do it an like its nothing an there fuckin retarded im like wtf there capable of so much with their technical knowledge an they spend hours of their lives making dildos. i really want to be so that i dont have to request other people i want to be able to work with other modders to like ya know say fuck u rockstar for sellin out an make a game worth playing cause they didnt. so thanks for taking the time

  • @kinghippo2000 its all good my man, i understand all people have to start somewhere and it kind of was my fault too....

You need any help we'll help you!

Anyways, like i said, I'll make a tutorial with pictures since i can understand it can be complicated and overwhelming for beginners. Good luck with your mods!
