[HELP] Car Mod Installing Errors
-
Hey guys so lately I've been getting errors installing car mods, any mod to be exact, i am following instructions, replace the file in OpenIv, copy to mods folder, ect... But everytime I spawn the car my game just freezes and crashes. Any step I am not following, I did a complete reinstall and still get the same problems, am I missing any files prior to modding?
-
@GrandTheftCinema Are they addon mods or replace mods? Because AFAIK replace method doesn't work in RSC edition.
-
@AHK1221 Replace works fine in the RSC version.
-
@LeeC2202 I've been tricked!
-
@AHK1221 You have indeed.
As far as the functionality goes, both Steam and RSC version are almost identical. The only difference is that the Steam version doesn't have to use a mods folder, everything else is the same.

Wait what? Didn't you just say replace method works fine in RSC?
-
@GrandTheftCinema Did you read any tutorials prior to modding?
You haven't told us what files you have installed, so we can't tell if you have any missing. If you have followed the tutorial on this site, you should have everything you need.
@GrandTheftCinema said in [HELP] Car Mod Installing Errors:
i am following instructions, replace the file in OpenIv, copy to mods folder, ect...
That is far too vague because you haven't told us what instructions you were following. Those instructions could be wrong but we can't tell without knowing what they are.

@AHK1221 Yes, why does what I said affect that?
Copy the files to the mods folder, replace the files in there, job done.
Edit: Just to clarify that a bit... I was fighting with GIMS Materials when I wrote that, so it was a bit brief. Too many distractions, not enough words.
Replace is just a process of taking the mod files and instead of creating a dlc.rpf in the dlcpacks folder, you are overwriting (or superseding) the vanilla game files. In the RSC edition, any files that we need to replace, have to be replaced inside the mods folder, to make sure the game doesn't replace them.
So the process is the same, it's just the location of the files being replaced that is slightly different.
As an example for that, I downloaded a Ped that has to be replaced in patchday3ng, so I had to copy that patchday3ng folder to my dlcpacks folder in mods\update\x64\dlcpacks and then replace the a_f_y_tourist_01 files in there.
-
@LeeC2202 Oh, then there has been a bit of misunderstanding. By replace method, I meant replacing the vanilla RPFs.
-
@AHK1221 Aha... in that case... no, those of us using the retail version can't do that.
I actually think that's a good thing, because we are forced to use a method that guarantees we have backups. It's a pity the Steam version doesn't enforce the same thing, it would solve a lot of problems.

@LeeC2202 Hey there, so basically Queches13 a mod creator sent me a personal request mod that is a replace file method, the instructions were as followed , go to Open IV and go to update/x64/dlcpacks/patchday3ng/dlc.rpf/x64/levels/gta5/vehicles.rpf
Then replace the files manually, I replaced the Lazer jet files (all 4 of them).
Also note that when Open Iv asked me that " the files you are working on are not located in mods folder" I told it to go there so i can modify in the mods folder, not sure if that makes a difference.
-
@GrandTheftCinema It absolutely makes a difference. I am assuming you do in fact have a "mods" folder right? Also, I would just manually copy the files to the target destination, and then open these files individually, so you can verify it took.
