OpenIV 2.9

  • OpenIV 2.9

We are happy to announce the release of OpenIV 2.9! This release includes new tools, map editing features for Grand Theft Auto V and numerous improvements and bug fixes in the different areas of OpenIV.

    Important note
It was almost a year since last major OpenIV release, because of that, we decided to delay some features, move them into future versions and make release with current state. This is means our original schedule for the first half of 2017 will be slightly changed. Instead of one OpenIV 2.9.1 release, we are going to have several 2.9.X versions before OpenIV 3.0. Unfortunately, this also means our Liberty City in GTA V modification also behind the schedule, but we still hope to release first beta around late spring. We hope you can understand our decision.

    Text Editor
OpenIV now have brand new inbuilt Text Editor, which allows you to edit XML, META and other text files directly in OpenIV without exporting them from archives. New Text Editor has have many useful features like syntax highlighting, customizable search, code folding and more. We will continue to our work on text editor improvements and new features, please report any issues or suggestions you have.

    Grand Theft Auto V
For Grand Theft Auto V we have long awaited editing capabilities for map files, such as .ymap, .ytyp and _manifest.ymt. Now you are able to export those files into META/XML format or edit them directly in new OpenIV Text Editor. We also provided support for carcols.ymt and levels.ymt, you will be able to edit those files as well. We will continue our work to support more .ymt/.ymf files in the future releases.

openFormats for Grand Theft Auto V
We also have made numerous changes and improvements to both models (YDR/ODR) and collisions (YBN/OBN) openFormats for Grand Theft Auto V. With those changes you will have more features in models and collision editing.

    The “mods” folder support
The “mods” folder became important addition to Grand Theft Auto V modding and we continue to improve your experience with it. We added new options, which gives you more control of editing game files.

    Tools improvements
Besides new Text Editor we made some changes in other OpenIV tools. For example, in the Search tool you now will be able to select area where you want to make search. It can be game or mods folder only or both of them.

    Other important changes
We also made many other changes and tried to fix some annoying bugs. As always, you can find full change log here.

    UI Localization
Finally we have written an instruction how to translate OpenIV into your own language and we are calling for you to do so. You can find the localization guide here on GitHub. As for existing localizations you can find list of differences between 2.8 and 2.9 here.

    And.... I'm updated.
Great work from the entire team.
Modding V without it is unthinkable :)

  • @Zackintosh I can't get the full installer. I have tried to download it twice, once to the default desktop location and again to a specified path and on both occasions, it completed the download of the 21.02MB file but then it disappeared. It just opened the user folder when it finished with no sign of the exe file.

My Windows 10 install is completely offline, so I have to use the full installer... I'm just not quite sure how to get it. :\

  • Bugz: Can't install OIV
Will be propably fixed in newest version (Already posted this on GTAForums)

  • @HeySlickThatsMe The hot-fix is released, this issue must be fixed.

@LeeC2202 please report any issues directly to me. Try new setup, it must work now.

  • @GooD-NTS That works fine now, thank you.

  • @GooD-NTS The new openFormats dont work with GIMS Evo :(

@Zackintosh Masterful job, mate! You and your team deserve all the praise you can get! None of any of what we're doing here would have been possible without you guys!

    @meimeiriver agreed

  • @GooD-NTS Yop, when I open the addonprops ( from @method ) def_props.ytyp it's not readable ;S ( translator.stringlist(45) error)

  • Love new feature to edit .meta files directly in OpenIV

  • MODERATOR

@GooD-NTS Editing .ytyp should work now, right? I edited v_int_24.ytyp, to remove a low-res wall painting (and references thereto, in _manifest.ymf); but the game immediately horribly crashes. :(

    EDIT: This is the error:

    [2017-03-26 17:21:32.427] [ ERROR ] GameComm: ReadFile failed.
[2017-03-26 17:21:32.617] [DISPLAY] Game exited with code 0x80000003

  • @meimeiriver @Biggdogg I don't even work for OpenIV :joy: I suck at coding. I just made this post to inform the community of the new update.

  • MODERATOR

@GooD-NTS Yep, just confirmed it: I restored the original v_int_24.ytyp again, and the "GameComm: ReadFile failed" is gone.

Mind you, this is not some configuration error (like on my end), but a specific ReadFile error: aka, the game can't open the .ytyp file (erroneous re-encryption?)

  • I have a problem.
When I went into Edit Mode, it offered me to install the ASI MANAGER Plugin (in blue), I clicked on it and instead it proposes to install, it puts me a blank page. I uninstalled the software several times, and I even tried with older versions, and I always got the same thing.

  • @Meep-- tagging @GooD-NTS If he doesn't reply you might want to ask here www.openiv.com

Make sure you have use actual language pack.

I don't think you can just delete some entryes in YMAP and expect it to work.

The game reports a "[ ERROR ] GameComm: ReadFile failed," though; aka, it can't process the .ytyp any longer.

  • @meimeiriver what exactly did you edit in file?

I removed all <Item> instances with 'v_24_sta_painting' in it. Then I got the ReadFile failed error. Then I just changed something minor, like a radius number somewhere. Then I had no sound (like you hear from ppl with a cracked game). So I guess the game may simply not like us messing with the files (has a checksum on them somewhere?).

  • @meimeiriver

You can't just simply delete things. That's not how it works.

You need to understand how the structure works before messing with it.

  • @Zackintosh , He is currently helping me on www.openiv.com :) Thanks !

  • MODERATOR

Ever since I installed the new OpenIV, I've been having game crashes. The last one I could actually catch, and it said something like 'unhandled exception occurred within .net framework'. I'm on Windows 10, and it is my understanding the .Net Framework is not something you should mess with on Windows 10. Regedit says highest version is 4.6.01586, though.

Not at all sure it's really OpenIV causing this; but it has been happening since I installed the new OpenIV. So, my question is two-fold: Are others suddenly having these 'unhandled exception' errors? And could they even be OpenIV related?

    Thanks.
