New Engine Sounds - Not Just Swaps
-
I started tinkering with creating new engine sounds by editing existing ones. I figured start small. So I edited one file of one vehicle START_UP and I have managed to get the game to use the file as I can hear it in game but then game crashes if you don't immediately gas it and keep going. If you slow to a complete stop after that, game crash. However if you jump out of car while moving no game crash. If you just let car sit you hear the new engine start then game crash as well. Anybody have any ideas on this. I'd like to put authentic engine sounds into the game from games like forza and such. But am already having issues.
-
@xXGARRAPPAXx honestly its not even worth trying to do engine sounds. The way rockstar did engine sounds, its pointless because making your own engine sounds they sound like a vacuum cleaner or nothing like the real car sound. Even the best engine sound mods on here made by Hippy still sound like crap. If they sounded somewhat similar to the file you made then I would make engine sounds all day. Also your game could be crashing because of file size of the file you replaced is either too big or not in the right format. It has to be mono sound not stereo and i forget the rest.
-
Mono pcm 16 yes I have the correct format. One second file as well.
-
Can you make batmobile engine sound?
-
We really need new sounds for trucks ! Kenworth Peterbilt etc...
i tried to modify existing ones but nothing change in the game...
-
I hope you make progress in this. I would love to have different sounds for my add on car mods, but keep the GTA vehicles sounding the same.
Regarding what Willief23 said, it sounds to me that Forza has more sounds that play together to generate the engine sound than GTA does. I know that GTA does because for example, putting turbo on your car does change the way it sounds.
It could be possible to make use of native sounds that Rockstar uses, then use scripts to get the rest of them working. The thing is, even the scripts sounds would have to be native within the game. That way they sound like they are coming from the car, and not an audio file playing in the background. It would be tough to do it this way, but nothing is impossible. After all, LeFix's speedometer mod is able to detect gears and RPM for a car. So it is possible.

@xXGARRAPPAXx
Do you know which ingame engine sound this is @00:30???
-
@nkjellman I am going to conitinue my work and research on this until I make progress. Care to link up for a project?
-
@rastakilla I don't know if that's original or not but I'm willing to take a look at your files for it.
-
@777PROJEKT I have made a little progress. Going to try to match the audio file down to the very second to see if game won't crash, but it does play the new engine start sound.

I've been searching and searching through all vehicles for that sound.
Its like a supercharged Kompressor V8 sound.Maybe it is a mod.....it sound freakin great!
-
@rastakilla when I get out of work we can compare files if you'de like.

Also I used to try the same things with modding original game engine sounds.
I used Audicity and just wanted to boost loud parts tool on the Infernus Engine sound....
Started the game and spawn the car...it sounded great!
Louder raspier exhaust then BOOM crash!
-
@xXGARRAPPAXx would you be interested in attempting to make a more accurate engine sound for the MV-22B Osprey aircraft that I have on the main site? The current sound is not even close.
-
@DarthPungz yes that is something I can attempt but please keep in mind I am at the very early stages of figuring this stuff out. So far I have managed to get a new engine start noise to work however the game will crash. I'm going to attempt this until I have mastered it. I will be home after work, 4 hours from now, and I will jump on my freshly built pc to test further. It's a red bull night for sure lol.
-
@rastakilla audacity is what I am using as well.

Don't push too hard, sleep is important for your health and I find good work takes time, I am patient and appreciate any effort you might make
Just as a reference here is a clip with sounds from pre-flight: 4 mins in has some steady sounds
Or this one:
The link below has interior sounds during flight, like at 1:49:
I am still searching for an exterior flight sound for the airplane mode.
-
@DarthPungz I will see what I can figure out and get back with you. This would be pretty epic if we can add created engine sounds.
-
@DarthPungz so it seems even if you change the START_UP file, even with a legit one from another vehicle the game still crashes. So it must be related to the files that are encrypted. A shame because you do hear the new sound but then the game crashes every time. Not sure why.
-
@xXGARRAPPAXx Hope you find the solution !
-
@777PROJEKT what we really need is somehow to decrypt those encrypted files that sit alongside the audio. That's gotta be what's stopping us.
-
@xXGARRAPPAXx Not sure how accurate this info is, but from what I've heard and experienced, there is a audio clipping limitation and file size limit to the sound files that causes the crashing or to play no audio. I remember trying to edit out the suspension creaking sounds through collisions.awc and vehicles.awc by replacing them with blanks, ended up only reducing the sound, but the explosion sound from first mission (phoning in to blow the vault open) went silent until I restored the file with baka's collisions.awc... Also tried increasing the volume of vanilla, that lead to instant crash, probably cause I raised the gain too high and audio peaked too early... Ask @Hippy, since he does sound modding, maybe he can help you out.

-
@xXGARRAPPAXx he's got a discord account there, I'm sure you can ask him there.

@nkjellman
This seems like it was merged with different parts of engine sounds.....
Notice it has the idle of the Sultan RS and the Supercharger whine of the Habanero, with other sound parts merged in it.
I think GTA Workshop is on to something here....the question is how???
