Steam doesn't think GTA 5 is there but it is

  • Steam wants me to reinstall GTA 5 and thinks GTA 5 doesn't exist on my computer but it does. Can anyone help me so I don't have to reinstall GTA 5

  • @sirkingnut you haven't told us anything about the problem, so we don't know how to help.

For instance, you say Steam wants you to reinstall GTA5 but you haven't told us why? I am presuming it puts up a box with a reason in it but you haven't told us what that reason is.

You haven't told us if the game was working and now isn't, or if it's the first time you've installed it and it hasn't installed properly.

You say GTA5 exists on your computer but you haven't told us where. You also haven't told us where Steam expects GTA5 to be and if those two locations match.

The more you tell us, the more chance you have of someone trying to help. But if there's no information in a post, people will just move onto a question that does have information in it.

  • Is it in Steam/Steamapps/Common? If not, the game won't think it is there... just re-install it, it won't harm your game if you have it somewhere else. Also, gta updated I believe, so it might just be an update.

This can occur when you run the exe directly, for instance. STEAM will then (rather punitively) decide you don't have a valid install. Fortunately, the solution is easy: let it reinstall! :) Except it won't fully reinstall: it will notice you already have game files, and will basically just do a verify (of all vanilla files), and then decide you have everything already, after all. :)
