@krashadam
It still doesn't hurt to have a little fresh creativity for once... not saying the car mods we already have are bad but this is like playing Saints Row: GOOH and walking around the city with the same lifeless pedestrians with you (the player, your character choice being either Johnny Gat or Kinzie Kensington) being the only unique pedestrian in the whole city.
It doesn't hurt at all but if fresh creavitiy means putting in extreme amounts of time to bring a mod into GTA then a lot of modders simply don't have the time or will to do that and will opt for doing something more realistic.
And yet nobody's ported the vintage cars existent within Forza (e.g the 1964 Chevy Impala from Forza Horizon 2 (I've only played the one and it's fucking boring). Hell, we've not even tried porting cars from LA Noire. (LA Noire: VR Cases has higher quality car interiors so it's a good place to go for porting HD vintage cars.
But nah, Forza and NFS are highly respected games so we need to port the same stuff from the same shitty game non-stop and lack in variety and creativity. Tell me, how many Mercedes AMGs of the same exact model do we have, now? Don't you think it's time to change the diaper already?
As I said one of the main reasons for that is that there are simply more people interested in modern car mods than vintage ones and that includes modders. The group of users on this site that actively upload vehicle mods is a fraction of the entire user base and the amount of those modders interested in vintage vehicle mods is an even smaller fraction. There is actually a 1964 Chevy Impala mod converted: https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/chevrolet-impala-1964-ss-hard-top one of the best car mods on the site in my opinion. It's a FM4 model and not an FH2 model. I doubt we'll see a conversion of the FH2 one any time soon since this one is already available.
That's funny that you say people should consider modding them in themselves or hiring someone to develop those mods for you, because a lot of times, the only reason anybody would be making a request in the Requests category here on the forum is because they don't have the power to mod it in themselves or can't find anybody who'll take requests without charging. I mean I understand that people need to make money and pay rent and so on, but this is what nearly killed GTA5 modding - We're essentially stealing from Rockstar just by asking people to donate in return for a car mod or to buy a mod in general (what JulioNB decided to take on). People come here and they pay for mods instead of paying for the DLC, this is what Rockstar reacted to and this is why Take-Two took action the way they did.
Would you support somebody else making money off your work? I don't think so. Yeah yeah, "Rockstar stated themselves that they're fine with Single Player mods--" bullshit they are. It had nothing to do with anybody cheating online and the lawsuit against OpenIV for Online Modding actually did nothing considering people were still modding GTAO even when OpenIV shut down and came back. What difference did they make?
I mean maybe if people weren't treating modding GTA5 like it was a full time job I'd say Take-Two or Rockstar wouldn't have sued the OpenIV team. I said this before but nobody seem to have given a shit, so I gave up trying to get people to think about why Rockstar (or Take-Two) did what they did.
Well It's true that they might not know how to mod at the time of making a request but It's nothing to do with power because It's a skill that anyone can learn and there are literally thousands of resources out there like youtube videos and tutorials on this forum to help with that learning process.
Well I disagree, I don't think anyone is stealing from Rockstar by modding the single player game. Rockstar and T2 know that people will mod their game and in reality there's nothing they can do about it. They foolishly tried to take legal action against the OpenIV team last year in an attempt to selfishly divert users away from single player back to online. It's obvious that T2 wanted to make even more profit from GTA Online than they already did but they chose a horrendous way to go about it and it resulted in one of the biggest PR fiascos in the history of video games.
Modders here who sell mods, do commissions or take donations for mods are simply benefitting from their own work which is entirely reasonable if you take into account how much time and effort modders put into modding for this game. Plus, a mod, essentially an add-on for the game, is not a part of the retail game itself so they're not actually stealing anything. Also, of course, if anyone decides to buy, hire or donate to a modder then that's entirely of their own accord.
Stop right there. None of us had said anything about modeling from scratch. @mzaliac14 even linked to a set of cars that someone could easily port to GTA5 (had they not been GTAIV models which are always locked...)
No but there are only two options. Converting a pre existing 3D car model to the game or building a new one. He did indeed but those locked models aren't very useful for any of us so It was a bit pointless to post them in the first place.
They don't have a problem spending 100 hours porting the same luxury motorcars over and over again.
Honestly, I don't think it's any of this at all. I think that people just aren't creative and rather pretend they're rich.
Meanwhile I read comments hating on people with some kind of creativity. What the hell even happened to this site? I haven't been on for a month and the first thing I see is hate being sent to people with real creativity and variety, while the same damn Mai Shuranu (or whatever her damned last name is, who cares, really?) reskin gets to run around the site like it's nobody's business.
That's because most of those luxury car models as I said come from games like Forza and NFS and they don't take 100 hours to port, more like 40-50 hours (I speak from experience here). It's an easier option so unsurprisingly a lot modders are happier to do that.
Well, creativity is subjective. Whereas you are clearly a fan of vintage cars more than modern, there are obviously plenty of users here that prefer modern cars over vintage ones and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just personal preference.
I've witnessed those sort of comments myself on this site and it is very sad to see. Unfortunately there is a certain group of users here who don't seem to have anything constructive or pleasant to say about anything. It's not something specific to this site though since you can find trolls and idiotic comments in any online community. It's down to the moderators of the site to keep things clean and sensible.
That statement makes modders sound like they're desperate for attention (more users on this site seem to be interested in modern car mods and that likely includes modders too and influences their choices when making new mods.)
So the spamming of the same damn ugly piece of shit tight spaced fucking TIE fighters...
....is all about the attention? Unless I'm not getting what you said correctly then you need to let me know ASAP because from what you said it all sounds like some fishy bullshit tuh me.
While I think Desperate is a bit too strong of a word to describe them, I definitely agree that the idea of attention grabbing applies to some modders here. There's nothing inherently wrong with that though. After all the site is all about about sharing mods and if a modder didn't want any attention, praise or downloads for their mod then there would be no point even uploading it in the first place. Of course there are a lot of mods for this game that stay private and never reach sites such as this one for various reasons, that's just the nature of modding; some modders are happy to share, some aren't.
Some want attention for their mods and some don't.
With the information I've been handed it almost feels like I should have hit the interstate for GTA4, but honestly this community isn't bad. I've made great reputation here (despite me coming off as a piece of fucking shit upon first joining.) and I've become a respectable member here (my profile statistics proves this easily, my reputation isn't downhill like most other disrespected members are.) so I really don't have very many foes here. So far from what I can tell I'm a respected member in this community like anybody else. There's no forum on the internet that's as decent as this one. I don't think I'll ever leave unless a new set of members fly into the scene and all the old members go and then the new members have some anal-retentive rules then I'd say that'd be a reason to leave, but so far this community hasn't gone AWOL, so I don't need to. I'm actually happy here. People understand my opinions/general statements and I have never felt more welcomed in my life.
Well GTA 4 does have a massive back catalog of mods available and it is definitely a great game for modding. Of course It's an older game so the community has dwindled and a lot of former GTA 4 modders like myself have moved on to modding GTA V or have disappeared. There is still a sizable community there though, especially for role playing.
I agree that the community isn't bad, It's just that since the site is open to all, there are always going to be a few idiots trying to spoil things. The admins and moderators do a good job of keeping things running smoothly here though. I admire your dedication to the forum as well so good on you for that.
