Here is a video of this process in action during daytime:
As you can see, it is an abrupt and distracting feature!

GTA V Redux: brightness adjustment from light source
I noticed that in Redux at night time, a (strong) light source will shortly make everything else a bit darker. I think this is for a 'realistic' blinding effect just like the human eye. However, this can be very annoying with exhaust flames for example suddenly making everything dark. Does someone know how to disable this?

RE: GTA V Redux without doubling install size
@LeeC2202 Yes, it is a pity we need to double the install size. However, I am happy we uncovered this information thanks to @yeahhmonkey ! I am sure this will be helpful for future GTA V modders with the same question

RE: GTA V Redux without doubling install size
Amazing that is works for you. I am chatting with @yeahhmonkey and we think it must come down to the fact that he uses the Steam version, whereas I use the Rockstar version, and I assume @LeeC2202 does as well...
Why that makes the difference I don't know!

@LeeC2202 said in GTA V Redux without doubling install size:
@olivierhacking It won't matter how you do this, if you put modded files into the original game files/folders, they will get replaced by the launcher. And it won't matter if you do them all at once, or file by file.
If you try modding the original files and then blocking it from the internet, it will ask you to connect at some point to verify activation... at which point it will update itself.
The only people that can run with modded game files in their main GTAV folder, are the ones using a pirated version of the game.
Wow, that really is a letdown. Pirated versions have a benefit over legitimate versions in this case...
Thanks for the clarification. I will move on to another mod that will not require doubling install size. -
RE: GTA V Redux without doubling install size
@yeahhmonkey I am not very experienced with this type of modding.
I can only open the rpf files 1 by 1 using OpenIV correct? From which rpf file do I have to move all contents to desktop? I do not really understand what you mean.
Thanks for your help man! Much appreciated. Excuse my inabilityEdit: If I understand correctly I will open every modded rpf file and copy its contents to the default corresponding rpf files. Then delete mods folder.
Don't you think the launcher will notice the files do not match the defaults and just try updating again? -

@yeahhmonkey said in GTA V Redux without doubling install size:
You could always instal redux.
then open all rpf files and put them inside the orginal one.it's a lot of work but it should work
How do i know which files in the modded rpfs to move to the default rpfs?

RE: GTA V Redux without doubling install size
@yeahhmonkey This is what I tried before - see the end of my first post. I tried it again following your instructions, but encountered the same problem where the GTA V Launcher immediately starts updating the game files.
@cgz linked an update blocker that might help this, but this really isn't the solution I am looking for. Updates are essential!I guess the only option for me now is to run VisualV. I am running a 512GB SSD, and cannot afford to have a 140GB game. Even though Redux is so great.

GTA V Redux without doubling install size
The GTA V Redux mod requires copying all game files to a mods folder in order to use the default files for GTA Online.
However, I do not use GTA Online and wish to skip this step in order not to double install size. Thus, overwriting the default files with the mod files.Does anyone know how I can go about doing this? Thank you.
(The mod works well for me as per the usual method of installing. I tried replacing files in the game folder with those in the mods folder, but this leads to the installer wanting to update the game as the mod files do not match the default ones.)
